Magnetic Man Guardian review
Re: Magnetic Man Guardian review
Waste review lol. Guy's boss clearly just saw the cover of NME and was like "hey we should write about these people", then Googled 'Dubstep', then wrote that.

Mad is probably one of my all time fave dubstep tunes now, but I Need Air, nah... not feeling that one at all... sorry. Not my vibe.

Re: Magnetic Man Guardian review
surprised by how shit that editorial was mostly..
I feel like based on what i've heard though the magnetic man album isnt going to be for me literally but for a different audience....i still have judgement, comb60s, korma, new dawn, angry, glamma, electromusic, addicts, blipstream, wise men, darkside of life, sub island, mudera, kinky, the shinein, technocal, percression, summer dreams, red etc etc so i think i can allow skream, artwork & benga to do whatever they want
also though i think it makes the artist look bad when they react to a bad review...just let em get on with it....it will do well regardless

Re: Magnetic Man Guardian review
Does anyone really care what the Guardian thinks about a dubstep artist? Really?
In any case the guys just expressing an opinion - if its such an outrageous one write to the editor, dont whinge about it here where no one can do anything about it!

Re: Magnetic Man Guardian review
To be honest, Guardian music reviews have always been fairly crap-to-mediocre
They either rave about something that's not amazing, or like this guy here, start typing out their review with a negative mindset and forget to be unbiased and subjective.
From what I've heard of the new Magnetic Man, it's not "blow-yer-cock-off" fantastic (it's a bit samey throughout the whole track) but there's some heavy and catchy stuff in there.
But, as always, it's not down to one person to tell people not to waste your time on a certain piece of music - it's for that singular person to decided whether they like it or not.
Get yer act together Guardian music reviewers!
Charlie Brooker can stick around forever though (or atleast until he has an internal breakdown resulting in an external expression of violence
)

Re: Magnetic Man Guardian review
review in FACT mag isn't very postive, but it's at least articulate.
i just wish that "is everything cool?" song gets on the LP (hopefully with a major label behind them they can clear the sample.)

Re: Magnetic Man Guardian review
Kinda prefer Skream by himself really. It doesn't matter that he's not making traditional top-tier type music when he just rolls out dub after dub for dancefloors.
Doesn't feel like there's any real Magnetic Man identity. Just Skream with slightly fiddlier production, pop-song track lengths, guest singers and two guys that sound kinda similar to him anyway. No In For The Kill type moments either... as in sing along pissed to in a club type moments.... although saying that i haven't heard all the tracks. One of them might be like that. THem Sitting on something for a single later on like.

Re: Magnetic Man Guardian review
artwork and benga dont really sound like skream though do they...
Re: Magnetic Man Guardian review
waste comment. artowrk, benga and skream sound nothing alike, and never have. you can spot a benga beat a mile off, and skreams production is so varied he cant be pinned to a single style, hence why hes seen is such high regard within the dubstep community.Jupiter H8 wrote:Kinda prefer Skream by himself really. and considering most people have heard a max of 3 or 4 studio versions of tracks on the album they shouldnt really comment. dont pass judgement til you have an article to judge.

Re: Magnetic Man Guardian review
The author of this bog roll material review needs to go and listen to Skream Benga and Artwork's individual projects because the lack of respect he's shown here for some extremely talented producers is just ridiculous and unwarranted.
But then again he probably doesn't really know about it cuz he's unaware of the existance of a musical world outside of the top 40 charts.
I havent heard the album and i wont pass my judgement until i do, but given what i've seen of Magnetic Man live (DMZ 5th B'day) and their previous tracks together as well as individuals, i feel safe in saying it will be nothing like what this wasteman journalist is chatting on.
Skream if your reading this then i say to you and Benga and Artwork to keep doing what your doing, this forum knows whats what and Paul fucking Lester from the guardian does not.

Re: Magnetic Man Guardian review
Thisfair play to them...they have all done alot for the underground over the years (and will most probably continue to do so...) and therefore deserve some mainstream success if they want it

Re: Magnetic Man Guardian review
when newspapers review dance music
it's always rock journalists who either give it a bad review saying it's "like commerical drum and bass" or they give it a good review and say it "reminds them of Aphex Twin and Squarepusher". And they're always completely wrong because, truthfully, they're not actually listening, they're busy fantasizing about the heydays of when they could still go see the Clash at a small venue.

Re: Magnetic Man Guardian review
it's not a great review, but Paul Lester knows his shit. there isn't anyone on here who is a greater authority on music than him. yeah, you might know more dubstep tracks than he does, but he sees this thing from a much wider industry perspective than this place and he does have a point. the tracks just ain't that great. I really wanted them to be, but they're just slightly too dancefloor-cliche for it to work for me. it doesn't feel like a work of art, which an artist lp should always feel like, a la Burial, FlyLo, Underworld, and all the other current great EDM artists. it feels like more of a series of audio adverts on a cd.

Re: Magnetic Man Guardian review
I think we all agree that this guy is a bloody mug. Magnetic Man is exactly as big a thing as they are made out to be. "The bug" and "fire" from the new album are some of the best tunes i've heard all year. Big up guys!
Re: Magnetic Man Guardian review
After seeing them at the Big Chill i'd have to agree.
