Do you prefer to use hardware or software? Do you think as you collect more hardware you'll move further from using software or are you (like me) just too attached to your software?

Big Ups widdler.

step correct wrote:Cool, any other tips you can give on Reason as far as how you set up your combinators, patching .. etc? Was Record worth the buy? What synth do you find yourself using the most on there?

8)

When I make a combi the first thing I usually do is slap a mixer in there. This way any new synth I add to the combi will have it's own channel. Besides that it really depends on the sound I need. A combinator is good for sending LFO signals to places they can't usually go. Another use for combis is for expression, for example setting up the knobs on the combi to do different things. Knob one could simultaneously change the filter frequency and shift it or any other number of combinations. I suggest youtubing around for some tutorials on it, that is how I got some good ideas. The possibilities are vast!

Boxer briefs! They dont ride up the ass and smush the junk like briefs and they don't lack support or bunch up like boxers.

how much u smokin daily? :P

care to elaborate on your musical journey up to this point? did you feel that music has always come naturally or has it been more of an uphill battle to get to your level of competency today? how much time have you spent studying music theory and is it something that gets used a lot in your process, or are you just more into experimenting and twiddling knobs til it sounds good? any advice (technical or otherwise) for aspiring producers?

thanks much man!

Big Ups widdler.

I like software best because I can go back and change things. When using hardware you need to have a solid idea (for the most part) of what you want or need for the tune, then record it, and it's there. (I dont have a tech savvy enough setup to sync my hardware to my software). Also I don't have much hardware aside from a few synths so I need software to organize and sequence it all. I like hardware and use it in my tunes, and would like to get into it more, but I don't want to overwhelm myself just yet. Once I get better at this whole logic thing it may help push me in the hardware direction.

Oh boy, I smoke too much =/ Probably a 1-3 grams daily, usually small hits during the week, and big blunts on the weekend, trying to cut down IT AINT EASY!

For me music has been one of my best friends , oh man am I a loser.... But yeah since I can remember I've had headphones on analyzing and loving all types of music. Getting to where I am today is still a weird thought. I have just basically been having fun messing with music/beats for all these years until one day slowly people started taking notice, and it all rolled into this from there. Giving out free tunes helps :) I have no music theory knowledge other than what I know from listening to and trying to imitate songs and artists I love. Experimenting is a HUGE part of my musical success i think. I don't usually get into a tune knowing what will happen, I just expirement and sometimes it's for the good! Sometimes... well let's just say i'll spare your ears by not showing you the failed experiments.

My best peice of advice for upcoming producers is to not only experiment alot, but to research too. Research style you like or producers and nit pick what you think they did and try to copy it. Eventually you will start learning techniques and from there develope your own unique style and way of using them. oh and HAVE FUN!

It will eventually be released , either on Dubsteprecords or for free, I know it has been a while (with other tunes as well) but I don't like to rush things :)

big ups for doing this. one thing that stood out to me on origin was how interestingly the tracks were structured, and it something i've been struggling with in my productions lately.

can you give us any insight into how you think about arrangement? is there a particular way you go about this task?

ya that is "harrington 1200", which was in one of the episodes of the epicly funny "look around you" series. It should eventually get a release as well, I have many tunes like that and prehistoric world that need a final master and such. Perhaps try and get all the older tunes released together , we'll see :)

The way Origin happened was basically a culmination of a year or two of work. I had built up about 50 tunes that were on the way to being finished and then started widdling (bazinga!) it down from there. I knew I wanted it to flow from different styles and moods so I chose anything that really caught my attention from the many tunes. I didn't go into it with an album in mind basically, it just happened due to having all the tunes built up and having an idea for a concept
