Your favourite limiter, compressor and eq?
Right, so i got a virus and all my marvellously illegal plugins are gone as i had to reset my computer... (probably got the virus from them, what goes around comes around i guess)
So, as i'm turning over a new leaf and what not, i was wodering if you guys could help me out with the plugins your using for general mixing (and that i will buy!, unless they're free)? Alot of the plugins that i see recommended are great, but more for adding colouration and warming up drums etc.
So basically what I'm asking is, which eq do you use (I've taken a liking to melda's freebie, nice and simple and quick to use), limiter (having a go with the demo of voxengo's elephant - looking pretty good but very expensive, and not quite as useable as the L2 :-p), and which compressor are using on all your tracks?
remember this isn't about getting things dirty, they are for mixing down. Maybe I'll compile a list up on this post of the most popular ones...

Re: Your favourite limiter, compressor and eq?
All of the following plugins will do the job nicely, and none of them will break the bank.
Compressors
Classic compressor, Christian Budde light-weight compressors, gcomp, blockfish, jb red phatt pro, Melda Compressor or any compressor by De La Mancha.
Limiters
Betabugs 'W1' limiter (which uses the code for george yongs limiter - an exact copy of Waves L1 limiter). Classic limiter, TBT Tls Limiter.
EQ
ReaEQ, Melda Equaliser, apQualizr
Seriously, even the couple of plugins that cost money here are cheap, and well worht the investment!

The sonalksis bundle is great.
http://www.sonalksis.com/essentials.htm
I don't know if these are considered clean or colored, but they're clean to my impoverished ears. Eq has a spectrogram. You may find uses for a gate that you never knew of.
These plugins are also 0 latency.

Could someone tell us again what the deal is with that antress limiter, I think it was a limiter, that had the same code as something else super expensive, maybe a fairchild emulation (and thus it was a comp?)?

If they meet your functional needs, then that is great. Why complicate matters by finding solutions to a problem that in your cse, doesn't exist?dav.id wrote:I still use build in plugs from abletonis that wrong?
Re: Your favourite limiter, compressor and eq?
this is a very nice post, loving the W1 limiter, and the light weight compressors (4 band) looks sweet. Cheers man! I reckon i'm sorted hahafutures_untold wrote:All of the following plugins will do the job nicely, and none of them will break the bank.

No, not at all (except Ableton's Reverb, which most agree is lacking).dav.id wrote:I still use build in plugs from abletonis that wrong?

Re: Your favourite limiter, compressor and eq?
Yeah man, just starting to work these in. I am generally using Ableton's built in EQ for cutting away chunks, and then SQuad or MasterQ in my final mixdowns. Still haven't done a comparison to hear coloration difference, might give that a try this weekend.nowaysj wrote:A psp sQuad fan! Transcontinental awkward high five.
