Your favourite limiter, compressor and eq?

Right now I have a basic setup actually been that way for a while don't really have the time to get everything set up proper yet I see some of what I am using up here listed a few times

Comp - ableton mostly for chaining though. Classic comp. I really need a glue unit on there asap. Was using old timer for a while.

Limited - classic limiter because it limits and that's it

Eq - eq 8 and the booteq

All free shit felt the ableton stuff b

Probably my most reached for compressor these days is the UAD 1173LN, it gives me just the right amount of control and does some nice things, it can make things quite crunchy which isn't always desired but can also be quite nice.

As for EQ I normally use Cubase's built in one or the UAD Cambridge EQ for generally purpose shit and then I use various UAD other ones if I want something a bit more interesting..don't really have a favourite as such though.

off the top of my head though i use some others time to time depending on what type of sound i want

Ozone 4 is pretty good and very versitile. You can run sub mixes thru it to doctor specific bits.
It also lets you store EQ curves of your fav tracks so you can see how close you are...

I just use all the built in ones that come with fl. Is that bad? haha. They get the job done so i dont see the problem

eq's:

standard (mostly subtractive) shaping is fine w/ the logic EQ.

to sweeten something broadly, i like the eq in the Nomad Factory channel strip.

i like the stillwell audio vibe eq to add lower info-- nice shelf on that one, and a really musical midrange.

stillwell 1073 emulation for the 12k band. the rest of it is kinda awful, but that 12k is divine.

just got the sonalksis, which i like alot-- smoother than the logic eq w/ similar functionality.

URS's eq's are really, really nice but i've never felt the overwhelming urge to buy them-- doing fine w/ what i've got.

compressors:

distressor. tho not in convenient plug-in form

again, the internal logic compressor is a really powerful tool-- the fun comes in the drop down menu of distortion, bias, and wet/dry mix... also, the switchable circuit emulations. the Opto and Class-A emulations are really nice on it.

Stillwell rocket is a gem. they should charge $300 for it. fantastic on drums, aggressive vocals, synth buss- almost everything.

sonalksis TBK3 is on probably 50% of my channels these days... with a chain of plugs after it to tone it down, sure, but adds a ton of life to sounds.

like i've said before, i like the rough rider on percussion, but it's kinda unweildly.

TBH I use camel crusher a TON on stuff. does wonders to snares and synths--- fantastic midrange shaper.

LIMITING:

i'll add clippers into this as well.

logic's limiter is fine at the track level. wouldn't put it on the master but it's more than OK.

Sonnox limiter is eerily similar to the L2, and thus very useable. I like the dither options.

I use the W1 a bunch as well, often as the last part of a mastering chain.

Vintagewarmer can do great things to the right program material-- i use it most often on drum & vocal bus, usually in parallel. the EQ/Crossover section is great, and the ability to change how things saturate on the back panel is a godsend.

Stillwell big bad buss is really really useful on the 2buss.

yeah, that one is a bummer. abletons reverb sounds really metallic and cold with is nice in some cases but you also want to use some warm reverbs

Are you talking about reverb 2? Are you sure you know how to use all of the controls on rev 2? Most notably the DAMP, BASS, H.CUT, and L.CUT?

I've never really been a fan of convolution verbs, I kind of like a synthetic sound to my reverb, reverb 2 fits the bill nicely.

I was relating to reverb 1. I need to experiment more with 2 as i've always used 1 for some reason Reverb 1 has the high/low cut options too, but it just sounds awful imo. I'd also like a more synthetic/artificial feel to it, i'll check that out thanks.
