Shit now that I think about it, that is a while. Regardless, my point about graphics cars still stands. Not many laptops that aren't Alienware are gonna have a 300 series video card.nowaysj wrote:Just about a year now, old timer.collige wrote:nowaysj wrote:i5/7 have been out for a long time in the pc lappy world. Re: Yes or No?
Nice work fellas, my other dilemma was whether to hit up a faster Duo, or plump for an i5 'quad', which is slightly slower in ghz but obviously has the advantage of the other two cores (virtual cores?).
I use my current lappy for DJ-ing, so if I did decide to take the plunge with the Mac, it would purely be for producing.
macrumors... will definitely check that.
Without wanting to sound like some sort of flush tit, the money isn't really an object, so it's just whether the purchase would be worth it for me in a production/peace of mind sense. All my VST's can be migrated over to the Mac, and I will obviously get Logic. Cubase 5.5 is pretty sweet though, I've fallen in love with it a little bit recently, despite it's cold, sterile exterior. I know I like Logic, as I have used it on a mates set up before.
The question is, just because you can, does it mean you should?

Re: Yes or No?
i highly recommend a hackintosh. i built one and its been a dream since, if you have any questions dont hesitate to pm me. it saved me soooo much money.
Re: Yes or No?
Your current VSTs CAN NOT be migrated over to your Mac, if you decide to get one. Those are Windows VSTs and they won't work with OS X.
Finally, if you decide you want OS X, I wouldn't recommend buying a Mac. Build a Hackintosh. You'll get twice the performance for half the price. I really can't recommend it enough.

Re: Yes or No?
Sorry perhaps I didn't explain that properly... I already have the licenses, I just need to download the VST's again to the Mac and use the activation codes I already have, already checked I can do it as I didn't want to be shelling out any more for stuff I already have!Your current VSTs CAN NOT be migrated over to your Mac, if you decide to get one. Guess I have some thinking to do. This is pretty much the only opportunity I will have for the foreseeable future in terms of making the purchase...
Thanks for all the replies, big yourselves up DSF massive
Re: Yes or No?
I think you have your answer right there, I don't think your going to significantly gain anything by buying a new very expensive computer and learning a new DAW (albiet one your familiar with and that is very similar to Cubase). If your current computer completely died and you *had* to buy a new comp then sure go for a macbook cos it seems like you can afford it and like the interface (cos let's face it when it comes down to it the biggest difference is whether you prefer windows or OSX as an operating system) but when you have a perfectly functional laptop already, why spend a grand and basically gain nothing at all?? Cubase will do the job just as good as Logic.stereotactic wrote:Cubase 5.5 is pretty sweet though, I've fallen in love with it a little bit recently, despite it's cold, sterile exterior. Agreed. I don't think you have much to gain. Sure, you might like it, but it's at the expense of a lot of money, for very little differenceparavrais wrote:I think you have your answer right there, I don't think your going to significantly gain anything by buying a new very expensive computer and learning a new DAW (albiet one your familiar with and that is very similar to Cubase).
