BASS!!! How low can you go?

Post by lostboy » Mon Mar 05, 2007 11:29 am

Not as low as this guy...

http://www.lsionline.co.uk/news/story.asp?ID=K2VG9F

40K sub developed for the US military, that can knock a car over

Reminds me of that great anecdote in Lloyd Bradley's Bass Culture, where the sound system guys are in miami, trying to buy a foghorn off a cruise liner for their rig

"Y'seh it tek two t'ousan watt?"

Class

how about ripping up your floor and installing subs into your foundations.

http://www.royaldevice.com/custom.htm#T ... TAL%20HORN

10hz. ok!

edit:

note that theyre using a 10 watt amp for the subs as the setup is so efficient!

1 x Royal Device CUSTOM MADE Solid State amplifier. Power needed non more than 6 watt/ch at max pressure level before ceiling seems to fall. Easy frequency reproduction from 4 to 30 Hz with 24 dB slope at 30 Hz (passive cross).
is it?

NO.

the article wrote
The extraordinary technical specifications of the Danley Matterhorn include a -3dB measurement at 12Hz and an SPL of 105dB at 250 metres.

Mike Hedden, president of Danley Sound Labs, says: "The Matterhorn goes two octaves lower than any sub commercially available.
3x Ohm trs 218 bins stacked together can produce 15hz so i'm not sure that's entirely true (but they can't knock a car over!)

"You can dry your clothes with it. You can move a Honda Civic with it. If the Civic's parked on a decline, the Matterhorn will knock it over."

This just gets better on every read. This is my favorite bit:

"His designs have been utilised in projects ranging from ground zero bombing simulation, jet engine active noise cancellation, and sonic boom generators..."

Now we just need someone to start a dubstep night called Ground Zero Bombing Simulation - or GZBS for short
