i don't know if there's a need for a whole new forum, yet anyway
i would join if there was though lol
But where do you put the line?
House means a lot of different things to different people,I have friends who HOUSE is there thing.. they would laugh in my face if I told em Hackman, Bok Bok, Martin Kemp etc is House music.. they might be wrong, but to people into Dubstep who we wanna get onto good shit, I think we might be alienating more than attracting by sitting underneath there forum...

Also, if we're going on relevance it should look like this..
Dubstep
HOUSE
if we're talking relevance.
If we're allso anti dubstep and we don't want this to be dubstep, why are we on Dubstepforum? get me?

Re: This subforum is completely []necessary
I cant see many people being ''Anti Dubstep'' on here TBH, but there are probably people like myself who came here solely for this section, I know nothing about Dubstep and I know nothing about Garage post 1999.
This forum started out as ''Funky'' which was born out of House (typically Gregory,MAW, Hardsoul,Karizma, Copywright etc) because people were branding it Funky House (for some reason) so I see your point about genre titles and mix ups, but on the same token the majority of stuff on here is House>Techno and recently more more Garage which, even though not my cup of tea is deservent of a place in this community, as Hackman already pointed out, due to its close ties with House.

Ok maybe no Anti Dubstep, but "not Dubstep".groucho_marxx wrote:I cant see many people being ''Anti Dubstep'' on here TBH, but there are probably people like myself who came here solely for this section, I know nothing about Dubstep and I know nothing about Garage post 1999.
Dubsteps great (or was, and sometimes still is).. but why be a footnote on a dubstepforum if we are moving on? Seems like we've outgrown the roots on this forum is what I'm saying.
Im not upset, I'm just pissed off and stuck at work

I personally don't care what this sub section is called, I like it and look at it 5x as much as the main dubstep forum.
If we were to lobby for a name change, 6 or 9 months down the line the reigning stylistic champ will be called something else, so why give into change at all? The thing I like about this part of the forum is that it's decidedly not strictly house where I feel like the dubstep forum section is only dubstep.

Re: This subforum is completely []necessary
yeah its good the way it is, this is my favourite bit of DSF, but house is a good name as even though girl unit is half step dubstep whatever, funky djs will play it, it fits in with house, funky, tech, garage, juke whatever, but if it was 'not dubstep', then that would be like 'other music' where people talk about metal and shit, but i did see summat about garage in there before, and thinking why wasnt it posted here hmmm.
i think it is better on this forum though as to moving to a new one, as like future garage forum is a whole different forum, and as good as it is, it dont get as many post, threads and visits from me as this does.

this forum has just grown into the "good music forum", as jackmaster called it, of its own accord.
it's no use trying to move it somewhere else or get rid of it, everything good about it would just fall apart.
i never see dubstep posted here anyway.

one of the previous incarnations of this forum was "post dubstep" which i suppose made a bit more sense but really who cares (other than littlefoot) about what this forum's called and what it's specific purpose is? maybe it doesn't strictly belong on dubstepforum but then neither does the offtopic section, or the other music section, or even the grime subforum that we used to have... other than the obnoxious whingers from the dubstep forum we had complaining when this forum first got created i don't see anyone else with a problem. it might be slightly dysfunctional but if it's not broken why fix it?
basically exactly what you said:
obviously leaving it entirely nameless wouldn't be possible though unless we called the forum " . " or something stupidLittlefoot wrote:Why not just leave it nameless and let someone else deciede and get on with the music.
Re: This subforum is completely []necessary
more to house than the joy orbison, bok bok, l vis type sound
house gets real good under 125 bpm

Re: This subforum is completely []necessary
Same old need to pigeon hole argument.
All that matters for me this forum is a place for like minded people to discuss and share good music wether it be 4/4 or not, I'm not going to go to any normal 'house' forums because I'll have to sift through all the stuff that doesn't intrest me when here it is all just, well, here.

i think we need to name this new mutation ourselves...but the only problem is that no one wants to take the responsibility for getting it wrong

but in all seriousness this boils down to the classic debate of whether of not (sub)genre names are a good or bad thing. it makes things easier to market and easier to find music if it's got a specific tag but then that can quite easily lead to pigeon-holing and stagnation. but i can understand ikonika's point that it may be be the lesser of two evils for artists to come up with a genre tag themselves before some over-zealous journalist with limited knowledge of the music inevitably does and we end up with the whole "wonky" scenario again

Re: This subforum is completely []necessary
It's a good section I agree. I have noticed lately though a LOT of record label spamming which, while inevitable, tends to clog the arteries
of the heart of this particular branch of the forum. It was designed for heads to discuss House in all it's forms and maybe demonstrate some tunes they've
been working on. I have nothing against an individual artist/producer posting tracks and mixes. I do feel that labels need to get a grip and stop being so tight.
Whilst I can't see the label thing getting any better, sometimes I wish that they would actually pay for some proper advertising, and I'm not suggesting
expensive magazine pages etc, there are banners that can be put on popular blogs for small fees. That kind of thing.
Just my thoughts on the subject doesn't mean I'm right!
