Well there are a lot of tempo based fx, and maybe the range in the fx won't work at 280 or 560.
I use 140.

Re: Dubstep - 70 bpm or 140bpm?
Master tempo set to 140bpm.Brisance wrote:How would you "set" a tempo for djing!?!?yamaz wrote: Yes I mean with production or dj'ing.
I understand that tempo's are relative, but that's exactly my point and question.
"In musical terminology, tempo (Italian for time, plural: tempi) is the speed or pace of a given piece. It is a crucial element of composition, as it can affect the mood and difficulty of a piece."
Ok, so BPM = BEATS PER MINUTE. That is, I typically count each bass kick as 1, and snare as 2, kick again 3, snare again 4.
With that being said, if I'm mixing a track in ableton with the master tempo locked at 140 and I try and mix a percussive loop at 70 bpm, it's going to sound like the typical half time drum beat and would sound good with dubstep styles. If I play a different percussive loop at 280 bpm, its going to sound like shit being sped up way too fast in 'relation'.
Typical BPM of House 120-128, Psytrance 145, Drum & Base 150-160, Hip Hop 90.....and 'most' would indicate dubstep at 140 bpm in comparison. However the actual BEATS per minute in dubstep is half-time, so would could easily say its actually 70 bpm music.
? If I have a track recorded at 140 bpm, I can half time that clip and still play at 140 bpm and mix it with other 70 bpm music set at that tempo. If I were to slow the master tempo down to 70 for that track recorded at 140 bpm, it's going to sound half its normal speed when I mix it with other 140bpm songs that I have not adjusted....deadly habit wrote:it's just a level of detail, you can make 70 bpm stuff at 140, 280, 560 etc
like grooki said it's the level of quantization detail
and riddle me this if it's twice as face as you say, how are you djing a 140bpm track at 70 bpm
WTF are you talking about? I can change he resolution on any tempo and get (1/32 or 1/64th or 1/go fuck yourself bass killa) note hi-hats if I wanted....plenty of detail there, or anywhere.bass_killa wrote:this thread doesnt even need to fucking exsist because there's no dispute. 140. anyone who tries it at 70 is actually a fuckin prick who need killing, cause you can't fill in anuff detail at 70.
so fuck this thread, OP you're a prick for starting this thread

bounce em out and open that shit up in a 140 for the rest of my track.
its just a nice easy way to get a higher level of detail on the percussion.
i sometimes go to 560 if i want a banging kick roll

@ deadly, don't feed the "killa" troll, take a look at it's post history... that's one sad human being right there. if we leave it alone, it'll crawl back into the shadows from whence it came... if it doesn't "foe" button and it disappears!!!

Hey, yesterday, I set my Tech 1210 to 142 bpm and started mixin mad beats.
Using anything you can set a bpm on is not djing.

10/10 to That . A simple maybe even dumb question : Is it OK to produce with 190 BPM , I mean mixing tracks will be much harder then .bass_killa wrote:-1/10deadly habit wrote:0/10bass_killa wrote:is that directed at me?deadly habit wrote:0/10bass_killa wrote:haha, fuckme there's some retards on here.

DJ and produce(weird way) !
When I'm DJ'ing dubstep, I usually warp all my tunes at around 140bpm and set master tempo accordingly.
I guess my question is more production specific as personally I like to make a dubstep beat at 70bpm rather than 140 because the metronome is flying off the chart like it would be at 280. I think a metronome going that fast would be distracting from making a chiller downtempo beat. But again some people say they use different tempo's due bpm based effects as well...
Am I fucking crazy?

Re: Dubstep - 70 bpm or 140bpm?
my default reason rack is 140, but i don't let the bpm of the sequencer dictate where i'm placing my sounds. i just use 140 cause... i dunno, i heard it was cool
also, you use a metronome? lol
also, you use a metronome? lol
