Loefah's attitude towards getting music out is great aswell, I just don't think this whole dubplate culture is viable when a scene gets this big. A lot of people wanna hear the music when it's relevant, that's kinda the point of it - people playing it everywhere and enjoying it. So I think it's quality that he's comitted to putting out two releases a month from September onwards as there's far too much great music (especially the stuff signed to Swamp81) to be kept in dusty bags until they're done to death!

That said, I would pop a righteous semi if Loefah also committed to digital distribution - loads of people without the means to play vinyl really want to be able to support this music with their wallets :W:

Not keen on that idea at all... would just detract from his vinyl releases

How would it detract anything mate? Apart from the fact that it eliminates the "exclusiveness" of only being able to play it if you have the means to play vinyl - but for me this runs against the essence of music. It won't make it sound any better or worse, it won't make it so that people who prefer vinyl can't buy vinyl, in fact all it does is ensure more people can support the music they love. The only thing those who argue for the availability of digital formats want is to be able to buy the music, they're not arguing (like the vinyl only crowd) for a condition where only the people who obtain music digitally can obtain the music at all.

I can see your quotation marks around exclusiveness but still I can't ignore the fact that vinyl is far from exclusive. You can get a record player for £50! If people want to support to the music there isn't anything stopping them from payying £6, which I think is very cheap if you really love the tracks, and supporting some record shops while they are at it. I don't buy vinyl only otherwise I would be a very poor guy but when it comes to such a great label like Swamp 81 having the tracks on vinyl makes it far more special and enjoyable experience. So for all those incompetant people who are too helpless and just want 'to be able to play the music' they really have no excuse of getting the vinyl release. It doesn't break my bank I just treat myself once or twice a month to a vinyl release. As a result all the labels and shops get the best support possible and I have a record box that I get more enjoyment from than a digital release ever could. I think that digital releases run against the escence of music, to collect the tracks that are special to you rather than build a souless mass of digital tracks without artwork or history.

OH and big up Loefah, all that stuff was sick and his taste is impecable and so refreshingly varied! His attitude on how to run a label is dead on. Really good to hear he might get some more of his own material out again! :D

This is sick, I hopes the Burial collab gets finished and if we do get Loefah tunes out this year I will be very happy. :D

I think that digital releases run against the escence of music, to collect the tracks that are special to you rather than build a souless mass of digital tracks without artwork or history.
But there's one crucial thing you're ignoring: you'd still be able to have your vinyl. I appreciate vinyl heads love it, I even have a few collectible pieces myself (despite having no player, they just look nice - I agree it's a great format), but I also enjoy listening to music digitally and I really don't see any reason why it'd detract from your experience by allowing others the format they prefer. Like I say, it's not a suggestion to become digital only - if Loefah did some digital releases then you could still love your vinyl collection until you were blue in the face.

Just my two cents mate.
