how long do you wait for a track to release after signing co

Post by thierry_le_dj » Tue Aug 10, 2010 9:30 am

ok i recently got signed to a label but all the paper work was done like 2 months ago and i've recently email the label about when is the actual date on the release but they don't reply the emails..

hmm do i keep emaling them?

or do i let it go?

how long does it normally take for it to release after you've done the paper work?

maybe am just starting to get frustrated with this not sure.

Depends on the release schedule really. Wasn't there anything in the paperwork?

Really odd that they don't answer your emails though.

Depends - I have had tracks that took 6+ months from being signed to getting released. However, communication is key. Everyone gets busy, true - but they shouldn't be messing you about either.

The paper work should have stated something along the lines of "Label shall release the Records within ______ months of delivery of the Master Recordings", sounds a bit dodgey if there's nothing like that.

I hope you read the contract? Most of the some labels have a sample copy from the internet, but change it to their liking, because it cost too make a fresh one, (you would need a solicitor to write one up)

Anyway, on the package they send you with the paperwork, it should have a label with their details, including phone number. However, don't keep bothering them, they may be busy, give it some time my friend :)

From what I've seen it takes an eternity  I wouldn't worry about it, get proper contact details like a phone number or aim so you always have a way to stay in communication that's better than e-mail.

fastest was about 6 months. longest hasn't come out "yet," but was signed in 2007.

those are both physical releases, though-- if digital releases aren't coming out ontime, then i'd be concerned.
