What got you into dubstep?
Re: What got you into dubstep?
Twas the more ambient stuff that hooked me in, like listening to Burial on the night bus, and then after I heard Skream's Rinse mix and Lightning VIP rattled out of my new speakers that I was truly in love...

Re: What got you into dubstep?
Burial's Untrue (the song and eventually the whole album) led me to Skream, DMZ, Hyperdub, Loefah, et al, late 2008. For many older dub[step]heads, 2009 probably was the worst year. For me, it was the most unforgettable. As soon as I got my cherry popped at a party, it was full-on, non-stop. World Music Conference in Miami, massive parties up and down the west coast (Seattle, LA, OC, SD), thousands of miles added to my car/air miles/rewards points, and going to the "homeland" - London. As everyone dreadfully moves forward, I am happily going back. Although, I'm more chill now. I still get hyped when I see upcoming shows, but not as much as when I started. It was like Christmas every weekend. LOL. So, Burial, let's get married thank you.

A friend named dropped the genre, and I kinda just started exploring. First thing I listened to was the widdler, then I tuned into dubstep.fm a bunch. From there my natural urge to explore music kinda took over, its been great.

i was jamming Distance's first LP before i even knew what "dubstep" is... besides that, i cant lie... hearing Bar 9's "Shaolin" and Nero's "This Way" was what got me into dubstep.

Re: What got you into dubstep?
i heard this shit in my head for years, somewhere between the lee perry and a tribe called quest..
then one day someone handed me a copy of skream!, some dmz plates and fabric37 and i said oh shit, someone beat me to it. stumbled upon the forum about 4-5 months later.
growing up in the states, and not in a major city, i'm finding this in a reverse cycle from all you english kids. after listening to the dstep for the last 3-4 years i'm now getting into jungle and garage.. breaks and dnb have never done it for me, as i know about them long ago but didn't pay attention.

Re: What got you into dubstep?
Was browsing the Sytrus section of the Image Line forums. Some guy wanted to know how to make a "dubstep" bassline and posted Coki's Spongebob and Red Eye as examples. Had those two tracks on my computer for a while until I heard Tectonic Plates I on rhapsody. Been hooked ever since.
