The DSF blog?

Phigure, what do you think? You're the design geezer.
i'll start working on some rough designs
i'm somewhat hesitant to stick too much time into this (ie, actually coding it) before i can be sure that there's some people who are genuinely committed
i'm thinking a modification of the current logo. which happens to be convenient since I already recreated the logo in a vector form for the wallpapers in my signature.
Might just be easier to find a good Wordpress theme?

Re: The DSF blog?
Awesome idea, would love to see it happen.
DSFblog in my opinion in the better name, dubstepforumblog seems too long.
Even IF the admins didn't want the DSF name used, it's still an awesome idea for the members of this community to run a blog together, contribute together.
I say go for it. I'm not sure what I could help with, as i'm new to producing, but I would help in any way I could.

Re: The DSF blog?
There seems to be enough interest from this so what I will is I'll PM Dubways and ask him if we can use the name/logo. Phigure if you could get a few provisional designs produced that would be great (but hang fire on the logo/name until I can get permission off Dubways) and then we can get this shit moving.
Here are some features/pages I would definitely have:
Topic of the week- A discussion topic of the week on dubstep in general, I had a few in mind for my other blog but didn't use them. We could make a thread in here about the topic each week and then link it in with the blog, that way hopefully getting more people looking at the blog
Tune of the week: A head to head battle of two tracks which are picked by me, and a poll ran to decide which wins to go through to the track of the month and then eventually track of the year.
Dubs section: A section focusing exclsively on DSFers dubs- I could get a soundcloud drop box set up for it...this way you can really get some exposure on the track given the nature of the blog being a tool where you can share things quickly and easily.
As well as artist/event profiles interviews. We could get a facebook page and whatnot set up and really push it out.
Any other ideas would be greatly recieved.

Re: The DSF blog?
Damn I forgot to PM Dubway, I'll do that as soon as and then discuss a the name (dsfblog.com is looking the likeliest candidate) and then speak to Phigure about the design and stuff and then get some submissions rolling in etc

Re: The DSF blog?
Gombles has came up with an idea of having a section for newer producers in the blog where they can read up on basic things like synthesis and track development in an easy to read, friendly format which is a good idea. I was thinking of having a glossary section too where a few glossary topics are covered each week (basic topics which would help beginners out-things like "oscillators: An oscillator is " ", it does " ".... etc ) or even if we all got together to write a whole glossary in a few weeks.... I've PMed dubway so things should start moving.
Re: The DSF blog?
wicked Idea on the gloassary thing, having definitions for basics aswel as more complex stuff would be helpful I think to most people not just beginners. Easily assign certain letters to people who wanna help aswell, person 1 does a-c person 2 d-f etc and just chose most common things that people ask about in those lettersjaydot wrote:Gombles has came up with an idea of having a section for newer producers in the blog where they can read up on basic things like synthesis and track development in an easy to read, friendly format which is a good idea. Re: The DSF blog?
imo we should cater to a different crowd than beginners who don't know what an oscillator is.
if this is going to happen, it should draw a higher caliber crowd.

I think we should have a noob section tho.. just not focus on it!
Re: The DSF blog?
Yeah definitely, I agree with Phigure too about catering for a more high caliber crowd-we should have the best of both worlds.........victoryaloy wrote:+1Phigure wrote:imo we should cater to a different crowd than beginners who don't know what an oscillator is.

As for the glossary thing I made a thread about it once but people weren#t keen on the idea.
If you have an A-Z which people can contribute to with a format of:
Acapella: is ............................................. , does ............................
(I'm just using that as an example, the format doesn't have to be that rigid) it could also be added to the bible if people wanted. Even though there's a lot of basics in dubstep and a lot of us know what an acapella is for example, there's still a lot not covered in the bible that I don't know about after almost 9 months. It would be good to link the two in imo for the purpose of core level producers. And still attract a high caliber crowd in other respects.

tbh thats so completely unnecessary. the fact that people need a production bible to explain what an acapella is fucking stupid. google the fucking term and there's your answer. same goes for everything else. i don't think we should have a section dedicated specifically to people too dumb to google something
Re: The DSF blog?
In one respect you're right, but in another you'd be suprised; look how often people make threads on here about basic stuff (I've done it myself) which can easily be googled. It would be a digested resource for people to look at a glance for what they need, bang, a couple of sentences on what x is, or what y does. However, this is going to be a team effort and I'm not going to do one thing or another without the agreement of the other contributors.Phigure wrote:jaydot wrote:Yeah definitely, I agree with Phigure too about catering for a more high caliber crowd-we should have the best of both worlds.........victoryaloy wrote:+1Phigure wrote:imo we should cater to a different crowd than beginners who don't know what an oscillator is.
