In the course of four odd years we went from throwing 30 people parties in little coffee houses and warehouses to 200 + in the nice bigger clubs downtown. With a full fledged little mini scene, producers, DJs, Dancers..etc.. So just because you are in a remote area or a small town doesn't mean it can't be done. It actually can really work to you and your crew's advantage.

Did you throw one recently with a flyer which read "did someone say MOAR BASS?" at the top of it? I was in SB not a month ago and saw that. Small world.step correct wrote:I throw parties in Santa Barbara.. let me know if you want any help/advice.

Visuals aren't that big a deal when it comes to dubstep, unlike trance/hardstyle.etc. where light shows are part of what make it amazing. Dubstep however, it's almost entirely about the music and creating that underground vibe. Keep your lighting simple but the attractions many (good local talent plus some interstate talent or international if you can afford it). The states have some AMAZING producers there (you guys are so lucky!) you shouldn't have a hard time in getting some fairly good west-coast locals playing at your gigKALALASMOKESALOT wrote:Hell ya thanks man. I did have one correspondence which seemed to be going well until he inquired as to what kind of music would be played, he ended the discussion after I mentioned electronic music![]()
Since you're here, how big of a speaker system should I rent for say an acre large warehouse? Is there any place in particular I could rent some lights from? I'm thinking I could start at music stores but I doubt they would have sick laser show equipment.
Best of luck to you!
PS - rent your equipment. More often than not it can come with insurance in case something happens - every now and then at an event things get stolen. If your friend's equipment goes belly up - guess who he's going to expect to foot the bill.
