Who else migrated here from DNB?
Am I the only person here who was huge into dnb and just completely left it behind after hearing some of the exciting things going on in dubstep?
I'm an old fart, been listening to DNB since '96 or so....can't tolerate it now. It's just almost completely shit now. I didn't even know what dubstep was until I heard some bits on the autonomic podcasts that instra:mental did with dBridge. Even Dillinja is shit now FFS. I mean WTF are those producers thinking?

yeah, after hearing ramadanmans RA podcast, it totally took me off in a different direction, leaving drum and bass behind
but the autonomic stuff keeps on bringing me back to 170bpm, there is alot of good drum and bass being made - loxy's podcasts show that

Kind of the same story for me..was a dnb freak, basically all I listened to since 94, then heard some grime at a club and lost my mind for it...then progressed into dubstep...haven't listened to much dnb lately, but it hasn't done anything really to blow my mind from what I've heard. Some one should post some jungle that will knock my socks off.

Yeah totally man. DNB has lost its grasp on me. Its kinda lame really, besides really good tunes by breakage, alix perez, d-bridge and instramental. That kinda sound is sick.
After seeing Skream Benga Joker and Zomby in one week I never looked back.

yeah I was into Jungle/DnB since 93 and though I got into dubstep in 2004, I still like DnB. On a night out, I prefer the last set to ideally be DnB. I also prefer to the earlier set to be mixed up styles... I don't feel the need for dubstep from start to finish. Saying that, this friday I would imagine Coki, Chasing Shadows, Tek-One, Skism will be dubstep all the way, with a few "drumstep" tunes varying the bpm from time to time.

Thing is the same manufacturers, distributors and some artists were making dubstep. Thats one reason why the dubstep scene got so big, because so many junglists started buying it. Also you got trendy hipster acts like Glitch Mob playing dubstep bringing the sound to a whole new audience. Keep in mind Chase n Status to Andy C and all of jungles biggest names and labels all released dubstep. Junglists always like underground music.
Dillinja still makes wicked jungle I don't know what you been smokin'

Re: Who else migrated here from DNB?
the people bitching about dnb being shit compared to old jungle etc are just as guilty as the people equating dubstep being shit due to youtubestep
if you actually like a sound/genre you dig for the gems and don't expect all the big names/labels/djs to represent them

Re: Who else migrated here from DNB?
I did, but then "Dubstep" got pretty old pretty quickly apart from a handful of names, but by then I'd bought enough Dubstep records to be able to keep buying 130-140BPM stuff on a regular basis without needed to get stuck in one genre, which to me, having only really ever bought DnB to mix with (and shitloads of other stuff to listen to but not really "play") was a fucking revelation.
The amazing thing about falling in love with Dubstep is the other music it opened up to me, and it's been an epiphany.
I'm also incredibly pleased with the utterly positive effect that "Dubstep" has had on pretty much every other genre I've loved over the years, not to mention the way it invigorated a wider global scene of electronic music as a whole.
When I excitedly told a mate of mine back in 2006 that I'd been getting into Dubstep, that it was basically a direct descendant of UK Garage and that it was going to take over the world he looked at me like I was crazy, nowadays he's buying 3024 and Punchdrunk releases.
"Dubstep" in the context of "a solidified genre of swung halftime rhythms and loads of bass / midrange / screech" has probably done all the interesting stuff it's ever going to do at this stage though (Reynolds' "Zone of Fruitless Intensification" writ large), and apart from Mala most of the more interesting people have already started doing other stuff that's only tangentially related to the genre as it is now - that's not saying that I won't still always check out a Deep Medi release, nor indeed stop checking everything else coming my way, but the real interesting stuff is on the margins, as Blackdown would put it.
Still only ever get booked to do DnB though, ten gigs between now and the 16th of October, and only one of them's a Dubstep gig.

Gotta give a slayer to the folks that mentioned sci-wax and subtle audio!
A couple more labels that kick ass are Astrophonica and Alphacut...check 'em out if you haven't!
Quite a few good posts in this thread for dsf...it's quite refreshing!
