Whatd Did You, Before Dubstep...

Post by Skepsis » Mon Aug 23, 2010 5:04 am

What did you all listen to before dubstep, for me its was hardcore/metalcore i was in a band and then i heard Datsik-nukem alittle more then a year ago and quickly got fruityloops, now im struggling to get it all figured out its so much more complex then throwing a riff backed by double bass, people always say Electronic music is easier to make and thats what i thought but boy was i so very wrong. If you did not start with dubstep go ahead and tell us the first dubstep track that made you convert.

Edit: My first dubstep track i ever heard was by a guy i never see anyone talk about, his name is DMT, hes sick but i dont know if hes still around. Anyone know? But I did not convert till i heard datsik.

Dubstep shouldnt mean you quit your band and focus solely on dubstep.

Im still into metal and am about to release an album with my band...

but yeah, came from metal, and it was seeing n-type in 08 that sold me on dubstep.

Personally after dubstep there isnt much else i love, But yeah i didnt quit they all fell off like my old drummer listens to lil wayne now and has no interest in hardcore. But hell you find alot of similar types listening to dubstep and hardcore dont you think, and n-type is lethal, thanks for bringing him up havent checked him out really too much.

I had to EDIT: wow Krizz your band is sick id love to hear more if your willing to contact me. And maybe trade some hardcore knowledge? Hardcore is what i grew up on so im so glad there is a like minded person here, we are prolly few in numbers. =)

Wow great track in your sig LOL ACTUALLY IT SOUNDs HARDCORE, with a two step rythm. Yeah jazz backgrounds are a deadly combo when getting into dubstep. But what do you mean Lo-fi, thats not a genre as far as i know its an effect? LOL not laughing at you but im so confused.

I was just saying that is the type of music i used to and still listen to along with dubstep.

Lo-fi is an effect but it is a style of music as well.

Example of Lo-Fi

always love to see what people were up to before dubstep.

i grew up listening to undergroud hip hop and west coast g'd up slaps. once i got a little older i widened my horizons and got deep into reggae and classic rock biz. once i started hittin parties i was OVERLY obsessed with jungle and still am. ive been splicing jungle, hip hop and reggae cuts together for just about a decade and was hesitant on the early dubstep sounds. once i got lined up with the fiyah cuts and they started pourin out it was over with.. dubstep junkie as well.

life is gooooooood! :D

Well i guess we classify things differently i put that into the alternative rock genre, Yes that song you posted did degrade the quality but that doesnt mean we can make it a genre. Genre is determined by rythm. Atleast thats how i look at it...?

System of a down will never get old...
To others if you make lo-fi a genre they every band that degrades the quality qould fall into that category so any tempo or sound would go into that genre and that doesnt not work let just end that right here... whoever started that bs need to look up genre and lo-fi in the dictionary...

I was into electronica and electro house, and other stuff. But mainly I listened to Leftfield, Chemical Brothers, Kraftwerk, Lemon Jelly, Prodigy, Propellerheads, Fatboy Slim, Groove Armada, Gorillaz. I loved other genres like rock and RNB, my favoruite rock band of all time is The Music:

But I think Phat Planet and 6/8 War by Leftfield was grounds for my love for mega bass, their album 'Rhythm and Stealth' i believe is still one of the best albums ever made and some stuff by Chemical Brothers:

now, aswell as dubstep, I listen to alot more house and bits of funky now n then, also listen to abit of drum n bass and jungle, and I quite like stuff by aphex twin, as a DJ I've learnt to appreciate all music, even if it's selecting one element of the track, people annoy me who here the first 5 seconds of a track and say it's shit...
