Virus

Post by DRTY » Mon Aug 23, 2010 9:09 pm

evening. My computer has some bent virus, every now and then the window im using 'unhighlights' itself (maybe a new process starting?!), and sometimes random webpages open themselves, like if i click something 100% legitimate, it seems to redirect me to some random websites.

AVG finds nothing
Malawarebytes finds nothing most times, but sometimes finds something and says its removed succefully
Spyware terminator finds nothing
rKill finds no odd proccesses

:?

I guess I could always format, but I'd rather not.

Could be that stupid rootkit problem I had not that long ago. Like when you're searching something in google and clicked any of the links, some random webpage comes up?

Sweet, might try that too. Giving this Avast a go first (fanx DZA).

It was initially something called 'Security Suite' which somehow installed itself and stopped anything from working (couldn't make any programs run at all), looked it up on Google and how to get rid of it, seemed to get rid of it, but now im getting this shite.

What about an online free scan...always worked for me.

Or do a system restore.

avira rescue disk
kaspersky live cd
also check your root drive for an autorun.inf
if you see that delete it
but a currently updated live cd would be the best bet for scan and removal

also be smart and install an adblocker and script blocker

superantispyware
malwarebytes
avira
combofix

run all of those in safe mode

also download and install HijackThis and post the log (or PM it to me) and I might be able to narrow down what problems may you have

Settings > Update (Basic) > Details > Turn 'Running Mode' to 'Silent'
Think that's it anyway
Also - Settings > Sounds > 'Disable Avast Sounds'
Do both just in case

Fanx errryone. I think Avast has done the trick, ran a full scan, it found 8 things and put them in 'the vault', then i did a boot scan and it found a few more, not iv fully booted finished a full scan and it finds nothing :)

we must have visited the same site.. i got a virus the other day and now can't use anything from my original user account, if i go on mozzila or explorer and this page comes up saying 'you have a virus' then some dodgy virus scanning looking site pops up. after, this software that i never downloaded pops up in my taskbar and immediatly starts scanning the computer, coming up with all sorts of horrible virus' i.e trojans etc. i don't know a thing about getting rid of virus' so i'll have to carefully read back through all these post's.
does it sound similar to what you had DRTY?

Yeah that sounds almost identical........ turn off your computer, turn it on again...... as soon as you've hit the power button to turn on again keep pressing F8, then choose safe mode with networking, then download, install, and scan using avast. Once that's done, set it to scan before boot, then turn off and on again (now it will scan before windows even starts which means no malicious proccesses can start)

I did do a couple other things to get rid of mine before using avast but i think avast will do those things anyways.

Just make sure you ignore the fake warnings etc

thanks mate, will give it a go

edit: would it be possible to do this on norton 360, it would seem a waste to have to download avast
