It's not really that clever. Here is an idea, jusin bieber dubstep rmx. That's automatically like a million hits. I am going to knock one up tonight.

sadly thanks to youtubestep you can pretty much type in any shitty top 40 artist name and dubstep and get hits back with what i have dubbed the aforementioned youtubestep

if there's an acapella out for a shitty pop son big on mtv it will inevitably have a "dubstep" remix pop up on youtube, the dubs section, or the main board
key elements to making youtubestep. kick on 1 snare on 3, wobbles with little to no sub content, spam to hipsters and mention filth in your description
if you get comments such as "filthier than...", "whare can i download?", "320 pleez", "now this is real dubstep", "i don't like most dubstep but this is awesome" you have succeeded

Didn't realize I was comparing and contrasting between the two. I thought my observation was spelled out clearly (even with the typo) but you must have missed the point. That point being that it is possible to make pop and experimental music. You can stay in your artsy bubble if you want, just don't expect to make money. There is nothing wrong with that. But don't think you're gonna blow up and be mr big shit doing deep and complicated music either. That generally is not the case. There are few exceptions here and there, but for the most part, people like/buy simple music.

I wholeheartedly agree that people relate to simple music as do I. The part I don't like is how unbelievably corny that stuff is. The deep and dark stuff, listen to any Kryptic Minds tune, it's really simple and formulatic but I love it. Listen, I didn't get into this shit for fame and fortune, especially not off the back of someone elses tune. I wanted to carve out my own style. To each his own though. I don't hate anyone for doing that. Fuck it. But the satisfaction you get from it will be short lived. I had a tune in the top 10 on Juno with a huge sample in it. I know how it feels. I have real mixed feeling about it because of the things mentioned here.

:z:
that and from a production standpoint 90% of this crap is presets, stock samples and have shit mixdowns
and like you said, you're riding off the fame of others

sorry man, i was pretty drunk when i got in last night and did fully miss your point.
i do get what you mean, although with chrispys stuff, it does seem to be a case of chucking an accapella over some wobble.
on the other hand, i think there can be a midline between making something that's commercially viable but also well thought out.
& re: the typo, sorry for attacking you on it, i turn into a pedantic arsehole when drunk, especially with spelling.

note to self: stay away from dsf when pissed.

Hey man no worries at all. And also ABZ, I get your point and I hope you can see mine as well. I am not defending nor attacking the music, just saying that the guy is doing something that people like, something that is very simple to do. There is no need to hate the guy for what he does. It is what it is. I'm not in it for the fame, I'm in it for the fun. If doing something popular lets me do more shows and have more fun, so be it.

Anyways, my main point is just to let him do what he does and don't hate on it.

It's pretty clear that you are going to garner a certain audience playing and making remix tunes. I won't touch anything remix - wise primarily any radio song accepella type track. I play mostly stripped down beats and use a very prolific MC.. (pretty much try to avoid anything with vocals entirely) I get a crowd hype and all.. but you know, the guy that gets on after me and opens with a lil_Wayne remix is probably gonna get more crowd reaction due to the familiarity factor.. that's just the way it is. In this town anyway. So, I guess just do what you do yano?

i've noticed a new trend too, if anyone makes a negative comment on your video/tune make sure to call them a bieber fan or have one of your buds post a comment with something to the effect of size of the dislike bar is bieber's penis size

Yes, this is what McCartney engineered all those years ago. He knew he'd get a canadian women pregnant, and that she'd name her first born, "Datsik."
