But wait, how do I make a retrigger glitch?Phigure wrote:ARE YOU FUCKING RETARDEDGrime Syndicate wrote:@Phigure: I say you answered none of my questions because, you didn't. Using the programs I mentioned I know and use to do what they're intended for isn't exactly an epiphany. Sorry to burst your bubble. And sorry if I seem offended. I was. "It's obvious isn't it?" and "derp" weren't exactly the kindest responses. They'd have been understandable had the answer to my question been that obvious. It wasn't.
LOOK AT THE GODDAMN PICTURE
THAT, FOR EXAMPLE, IS HOW YOU MANUALLY CREATE A RETRIGGER GLITCH
IM NOT TALKING ABOUT USING A FUCKING VST TO DO IT. IF YOU WANT TO REPLICATE SOME OF THE COMMON GLITCHES, JUST USE SOME COMMON SENSE. IF YOU WANT A RETRIGGER GLITCH, RETRIGGER IT MANUALLY. IF YOU WANT A STRETCH GLITCH, STRETCH OUT THE SAMPLE.

@Phigure: My Bad. For real. Never considered myself retarded, but I'm gonna look into it. In my defense though, that was a cheeky ass answer initially. LOL. Sorry, not familiar with FL. Screen shots looked like VST, and my mind glazed over upon seeing the shots. Thanks for the advice. I'm sure you meant well and apparently I'm an ungrateful bastard.

Re: Glitching Techniques
Anyways, I've been moderate with my use of the Glitched shit because, well, I just started producing like 2 1/2 months ago. This is like the sixth or seventh track I've made, and I've been making tracks that are feeling dubbier than they are glitched. Well, maybe filthier? Ha, so cliche at this point. But its still a work in progress (Like everything I've ever done, ha!) SO, you'll see what I mean. I put a descending gate in Gross Beat on the tail end of the bit that started at 2:06. Which isn't really glitching at all. Much anyway. It's kinda wack, but whatever. Been a learning experience. Soundcloud

Re: Glitching Techniques
stick some sounds into kontakt
mess about with start points, loop points, the time machine granular settings, bitcrushing, etc
mess about with ott gates and compression
bounce your stuff to audio and chop it up, retrigger bits, etc.
really ott timestretch stuff and chop chunks out, stick in your sampler. if you want start messing with loops and stuff again
use really small envelopes on volume, filters, etc
stick comb filters on stuff with low frequency and high resonance.
go mad basically.

ctrl-c ctr-v ctrl-x ctrl-d etc.
years ago in the mid 90s i loved to do extreme sample rate conversions or renaming files as .wav and then load them or if you have logic load the fade files it produces or similar files...just fock up your audio, innit?
record into crappy 8bit device or fucked up tapes. re record and manipulate the playback device while recording (like scratching the tape or playing with the start, stop, fastforward buttons like its a fecking instrument).
hope you get the idea...
edit: and all what gravity said,...mainly this: go mad basically.

Re: Glitching Techniques
I'd recommend to program your own glitch effects instead of using these plugs.
They're usually easy to use and sound good but you'll learn much more doing everything from scratch.
It's similar to building your computer vs buying it built. It's more work in the beginning but once you get your head around it you have a much better understanding of what's doing what which means better control which means more fun (or less stress for computers).
You also get more creative which is always worth doing.

Re: Glitching Techniques
I suck at glitch tbh...but for vocals it sounds nice to glitch them the fuck out in parallel.
You still get the effect, but it doesn't seem forced or over the top.

Just because you are a character, does not mean you have character.

Re: Glitching Techniques
Does anyone set up an array of different beat repeats in ableton and trigger each one and bounce the audio to get interesting cuts?

Re: Glitching Techniques
Ive been having some good results with making a beat or just a buncho random sounds sequenced then throwing a shitload of effect on the group ( livecut, phasers, flangers, distortion, reverb delay, chorus, filters, etc etc...) and automating a ton on all the effects, espicially the dry wet. then maybe resampling that and pitching it, reversing it, chopping up, timestretching and repeating the process. Or maybe just cut out a chunk of it and using it for a hi hat or something. I guess its just the same process I do for reese basslines but just for percussive sounds... Also search the web for random free weird vst glitching effect's there a bunch of really unique vst's that are free and great for glitching out there.. heres a tune where I did this - Soundcloud
