my ears are fucked from years of abuse from shows. i went and got filter plugs from an audiologist. they custom mold them to your ear which is pretty cool. cost $175 and they we're worth every penny.

I do. ER20s. 15 quid and they sound about 60-70% as good as the custom molded ones I used to have, which cost about 150 or so. The custom ones sounded absolutely great but I lost them in a club about 5 years ago and didn't replace them. I've since lost about 3 or 4 pairs of ER20s but not really been too gutted about it...

IMHO the main downside to the ER20s is the weird plastic bit that sticks out, but it's really not that much of a problem.

There was a big topic on this.

I use these:

Love them.

Used to have ER20s but they stick out of your ears a bit too much, don't they? I didn't try but I think you can't dj with them, while with the ones above you can.

I always wear my plugs when in clubs and loud bars, don't leave home without them! :)

I had some specially molded ones done as well. They dampen the music in a really good way...not perfectly linear, but you dont loose just hi end as with some cheaper earplugs.
To be honest, i've actually been to concerts where the show sounded better with my earplugs than without!
Ridiculously expensive, but definitely worth the money if you don't wanna end up with a 15k sine wave in your head for the rest of your days!

I steal these from work because they are the most comfy foam ear plugs.

But wearing them at clubs and parties is gay.

I have the ER-15's. Invaluable...! used them only a few days go. You only have 2 ears once that's got, there is not replacement. Invest!

Here: http://www.audiorelief.co.uk/shop/produ ... ucts_id=40

Read... It's costly, yes no doubting that, but you have to look in the long run.

1st, you must make sure your ear are clean
2nd, go get a mole impression of your ear then
3nd wait from them to came back to you from the lab.

Wear them anywhere would the DB level is over 85/ going into 90.

You can Dj over them, stick in the plugs, put on headphones, simple.

Pm me if you require any more help/info

So when do you wear them?

I use the ones we get handed out during practice when people with big caliber rifles come in. Not the best option because they dampen a lil too much, but no beep in the ears :e:

Honestly I don't use them nearly as much as I should at the construction sites I work at. I don't necessarily steal them, just forget them in my pockets or tool pouch.
I kind of wish I had more info about the effects of db's at parties and concerts when I was in my teens and 20's because now I have some of my higher frequencies. Having said that I probably still would have thought it would never happen to me.

I've always wondered about these things, wouldn't wearing them completely muffle any sound? like in a bad way?
How does I wobbled bass?

Basically the reason I ask is because im doing a paper on the noise exposure of dj's within nightclubs. Over the last few weeks I have taken dose measurements of various DJ's performing in various clubs, the highest level I personally recorded was an LEQ(8 hour) of 100.4 dB(A) and a Peak level of 141.7 dB(C), the threshold limits for noise at work are 87 dBA and 140 dBC so the exposure is pretty high. The reason I ask about ear plugs is for mitigation techniques, it seems by the answers that either custom moulds or the Elacin ear plugs are the most popular, do alot of you suffer from hearing problems or are you just trying to prevent having them in the future?

Yup also got custom ones and it's REALLY worth the 150-175 euros/dollars, believe me. I kinda fucked up my ears 1 year ago and it was then that I started to realise that wearing those earplugs is essential if you want to enjoy music at clubs for longer than 5 years without totally fucking up your hearing.

Really big favour to ask, im currentley doing a survey had some good responses just for my dissertation but need as many as possible really, i dont know if you have a spare two minutes and could answer these couple of questions:

Performance name:
Age:
How long have you been DJ-ing:
How often do you DJ:
Do you ever suffer from a temporary threshold shift after playing in clubs:
Do you feel like your hearing has gotten worse since playing in clubs:

You have pretty much answered the rest of the questions, if you could do these it would be really really appreciated and a huge help.

thanks.
