I like 'black' music...

Post by apmje » Thu Aug 26, 2010 1:50 am

So yeah, possibly my first thread on DSF and this isn't the best state to be posting in. Should maybe post in the fucked thread, but fuck it. The ninjas are awesome and I aint posting in the dubstep forum.

Met a guy tonight who was boosting about 'loving black music', without a doubt I have barely any idea about 'black' music. But I consider myself fairly educated on the world of dubstep, grime and UK garage to know its very much a scene which has derived from black music culture. Dub, reggae, garage. His reference to black music was 50 cent, Lil Wayne and his favourite artist, Kanye West. Yet I put some Coki and Mala on and no idea, I had got abuse straight up for it. I even put some P Money and D Double E on and was told this was straight up shit and only American black music was 'good'. I dont know a lot about UK garage or grime but felt insulted that this guy refused to take my opinion even for 50p.

Venting out but has anyone else meant total small minded arseholes like this guy? It's a shame that the capitialist American labels push this sound down so many peoples throats and yet they don't respect so many artists and producers on the local level. Sad state of affairs my friends.

The fun thing with 'black' music is that the 'whites' usually do it better.. Not as materialised. But Mos Def is still the greatest :)
After that Aesop Rock (white), Em (white).

I dislike the term 'Black Music'. It's just music.

Music tends to be a regional thing. Race doesn't matter.

Bit worse for ware last night, I must admit and I think the point I was trying to convey wasn't about race but more about ignorance of the general populace.
