Dubstep w/ MC

Post by TurnerR0und » Tue Aug 31, 2010 5:40 pm

Is there any good dubstep tracks with MC's? Definitely cannot think of any. Post them here.

Also I said I'd post this for a mate, for some constructive criticism.

Fair point. I used to think like this. Not every MC is like that tho. They are there to bring hype, communicate with the crowd and to add a sort of human touch to the music. Some just can't do it and assume that the whole set is about them, others realize that they are there to compliment the music and get the crowd going that little bit more. It's all down to taste really.

I've come across bad MC's when playing on radio, they get too drunk, they start shouting down the mic, fucking with mic levels and worst of all messing with my channel faders to get their "sick bars" in. It's not great when your trying to beat match and you suddenly lose your reference!

But yeah, MC's are really hit and miss. It depends on so many factors. Is the Mic too loud? Is he actually good? Does he know when to shut up? Does he understand basic musical structure? As for them having to be a "G" or a "Hustler" or a "Pimp", nah he doesn't have to be. This is 'underground' music, it's a dark sweaty room. You leave your pretensions at the door.

This mc is pretty shit, he needs some work and he should never spit over anyone else's beat cause he will ruin it...unless it's datsik ;)

I do see the point of an MC at shows to get the crowd hype, but never on the radio or any other set for that matter. The MC should be crowd focused, and he/she should know when to shut up and let the music ride (which almost no mc can get this right). The mic levels need to be checked, nothing is worst than a loud mc overbearing the music itself.

With regards to having lived through some crazy shit or being a G or whatever, you are completly missing the point of the MC in electronic music. The MC is there to make the crowd hype, but yes I do agree that in most cases they overextend themselves and most of them are horrible and should never be spitting on a mic period.

This.

I've seen some excellent MCs that really do add to the experience (like Rod Azlan, who MC'd for Rusko and Caspa at Ultra this past year, IIRC), but most of the time in my experience they've detracted from the experience. Usually because they talk too much and/or actually start rapping, with verses and stuff...MCs in dubstep must play the role of the hype man and compliment the music, not take it over. This isn't hip hop.

this is hilarious, i agree that MCs often kill the vibes but if you think MCs can only recite the same played out topics you have a severe imagination deficit. Take Doneo- Party Hard for example, there are a million things one can rhyme about, its all about keeping it proper and not overpowering the tunes. peace
