@ offerman - thanks for the feedback. Actually haven't worked out the outro/ending, just let it drift off after the second breakdown.

@ wabble - thanks man. Going to work out some subtle change-ups through out, maybe something new every 8 bars and/or some sort of fill the end of 8 bars.

@ naw - thank you, definitely trying to go deep, will work some sub drop outs, see how it sounds.

Got a chance to sit down this afternoon and check a few clips. Now for some feedback:

@ wabble - I am really feeling the intro on the untitled WIP, how the drums kind of have a lazy jazz session feel to them, and the "spr-ri-ri-ng" sound to the snare. Not into the bass though once it drops though, can't really put my finger on it though. I feel like maybe another layer on top of it to fill in some more frequency range?

@ naw - didn't hear the earlier version, but yeah, resampling will help beef up things. Like the talkbox-ish sound to the bass, good call / response feel to it the melody. The snare could probably use more pop to it, and work on some fills, and this WIP should really chug along.

@ offerman - whoever commented on the detuned bells, yeah, I like the feel they bring to it. The verbed out claps too, just a really nice deep feel to it. Lazy drums that work with the other elements, and the elements you brought in later in the track help it move along.

@ RightOnTime27 - some good ideas & sounds in use, but the bleeps, the airhorn and sweep all sit too loud compared to the drums and bass. I really like the hats you bring in around 1:16 for a few bars. You definitely have the variety coming through, and the right elements, just need to work out the levels on them.

@Paulo
That lead melody line sounds really good man. I would maybe add some more effects/stuff here and there to keep it fresh.

I made some edits and added a vocal sample to my track. Let me know what you guys think.

@CircusJam - That track is filthy! I like it alot man, good job. Haha I dont really know what to improve on that.

@Offerman - Thanks for the feedback, much appreciated. Yeh i started noticing that today that i gotta switch up that lead a bit. Great track btw, really mellow. The little pads/bells at 1:16 are nice, but im not sure if theyre a little off or detuned in a way. But thats probably your intention. I'll be getting some cans next week, id probably have a better detailed look by then.

I'm working on a more dancefloor, dubtech style track atm which has come out of nowhere (yay!) so will post that up in a few days :)

Hey, a couple things:
1. You generally want to leave feedback on other tracks when you put up one of your own for feedback. Especially if, like me, you haven't posted a terrible amount on the forums already.
2. Bumping your post within 8 minutes of the original post is in poor taste.
3. Your track sounds good (not really my style) idea wise, but the levels are crushed when the drop hits. You've got to tone down that limiter or compressor on the master that you've got going. It's really crushing all your dynamics and distorting the audio in a bad way. Otherwise, the track sounds relatively well put together.

Can't say I really dig the sound, but a few things production-wise:

- those starting synths could do with a little beefing, they sound quite weak
- your drums need some compression, possibly even a little side-chaining with your bassline to bring the kick forward
- snare seems a little weak

Fairly good for 4-5 months I reckon :) (4 months here myself)

Everyone, thanks for the feedback. Much appreciated.

@amphibian: you're one to watch man. I've got my eye on you, for real. Keep doing what you're doing. The synth at 1:22 on break even's ridiculous. Synthesis to notes hit, I'm on it. Nuff said.

@marshy: loving the indian sounding high synth, but a tad repetitive. You've got more ideas, give em to us.

@steeple: the hard minimalism's a sound I'm not accustomed to. Sounds great, what's there, but give us a bass. That said, I really like your use of noise and that little synthy bit dancing around the drums. Fact, think i've something to learn from this.

@offerman: the snare WAS overcompressed! good lookin out! Dunno if I can agree about my kick tho. I've reworked it some, and thrown a touch of sidechain on the sub, which I think moderates the issue some. I'm liking my kick and snare during the bassy bit, but not my other percussion, think I may write something new regarding that. But, it was your comment that got me pondering this line of thought, so thanks! Regarding your track, DAMN, can you say atmosphere? Way to set the tone, son. Really nice intro, really nice. Loving the feel of the percussion. Not loving the angsty synth from 1:25 to 2:20, but that's me. Anyways, all in all, big up!

@xhlr8d: Fine wobbles man, some fine wobble indeed. That formant bass has been rinsed super hard though, so watch that u don't fall into a niche/cliche. Having said that, super nice track. Loving the sample (bit formulaic too, but I'm guilty of the same thing, so whatcha gonna do?) All in all, very nice. The dubstep I've come to know and love.

@lukeluke: i dont usually get down to this kind of jump-up but that being said it sounds like a pretty cool track overall. you might do well with some "fwish" throughout the intro. and a bit less cliche transition would be interesting, though thats not to say that transition sounds particularly bad, its just kindve overdone. honestly i'm not a fan of that ending but hey, my WIP dont even have a formal ending yet so i shouldnt talk haha. really though overall it sounds good, definetly nothing i can do.

@offermann: sounds great dude. i LOVE the huge reverberated harmony at the end. i think it'd be sick as fuck if you spelled out a melody with a more spaced out higher-ranged line within the arpeggio (you know what i mean?). other than that sounds sick dude, not much criticism coming from me thats for sure.

@paolo: i like the idea alot, i just think you need to deviate from it at some point, majorly. the whole song is kindve the same thing over and over again, which CAN work, but i think a bridge or something would do it really nicely. love the feel and pace of the whole thing though. diggin the wah as a more secondary instrument.

Soundcloud
heres a new WIP. started it like 4 days ago, just added a bunch of new stuff. got cut off for some reason, but the "end" aint relevant at this point anyway. once it gets to the repeat of the first part, thats all just kinda filler for now. still gotta figure out what i wanna do after that bridge-y thang. anyways lemme know what yall think of it, i love me some constructive criticism.

Wow dude... you've humbled me. Thank you so much! :) Funny thing is I don't really think that synth hits the nail on the head, wasn't totally happy about it. hehe

What do you eman by "synthesis to notes hit" ?
