Promotion etiquette

Post by deadly_habit » Tue Sep 07, 2010 10:42 pm

1. If I wanted to know when you have a new track up on your soundcloud, I would be following you. I don't need an email notification telling me this track has been privately shared with you and 6,453 other people.

2. You're not on my AIM buddy list, nor have I ever chatted with you before. Why are you sending me a link to a thread/website that is blatant spamming of your tune, mix or radio show?

3. My myspace, facebook fan page, youtube, etc channel is for people interested in my music and is not your personal advertising space. Set up your own damn site.

who else has some good ones to add?

:z:

4. If you're going to comment my shit, do it because you like something, don't just put "Cool man, check out my stuff!", because its obvious you haven't listened to the track. Everyone else does it properly, so you shouldn't be an exception.

#5. An awfully high number of producers don't actually listen or buy much music of the same genre they make...Its the DJs and the general punters you wanna spam, not us.

Dubs thread with 30 of your own bumps is not a successful promo campaign.

yeah the privately shared to you and 6,534 other people is a joke.

I never check those sort of tunes...

havent been on soundcloud or myspace for months anyway, horribly out of date, need to remove all the dnb as get loads of potsnpans types adding me/spamming me.

- self-written press texts (preferrably with claims of tearing the scene apart) are embarassing.
- the only thing that's worse is doing interviews with yourself.
- i don't care about your history of making progressive vegetarian acid-breaks for 9 years without releasing anything when your tunes still sound like anyone else's formulaic wobstep.

Skyla Grime/Skyla Versatile Music can fuck off "privately" sharing his music with me. At least a track a day too.

Thankfully, you can chose to turn off emails about "privately" shared tracks. In the notification email, down the bottom you'll see this -

"Want to change the whens, whats and ifs of these emails? Do so in your email settings." Click on "Do so in your email settings" and tick the box after the link takes you to Soundcloud

yeah

and it's always the same 10 people who I have never heard of

I am also bothered by people hijacking threads for promotional reasons...

from the dubs section:
"if you like this tune, you should listen to the mix I put it in"
FAKK OFFFFFFFFF!!!!!!!
