Am off to uni this sunday and have just figured out the basics of my finance and its tellin me that i have fuck all left over from my loan after adding up accom/tuition fees. I already figured that i would need to get a job of some sort but is it really this savage? I havent looked at other uni fees so i cant really compare (im off London south bank uni btw.) Basically what im asking is how far do/did you make money last at uni and for any tips on the matter. Ta in advance!
Get a campus job. Student jobs are always available and generally they're
pretty well paid for a few hours work. I was getting £8 an hour just to put
books back on shelves in the Library every weekend.
Buy cheap tins of tomatoes. KTC - 4 fo £1 at ASDA. You can make practically
any sauce with a tin of tomatoes.
Get your parents to make you batches of food and freeze it. Comes in handy,
but chances are you'll have two shelves in a fridge/freezer you share with other
people.
Buy what you need. Don't buy shit loads of fresh fruit and stuff coz it goes off
rather quickly - buy it as and when you need it.
Don't buy ready meals - you'll have plenty of time off - learn how to cook.
Ready meals tend to go missing if you have dickhead flatmates. No one can
be fucked to steal a butternut squash though.

Oh, and try and buy your weed in weights, if you're going to smoke.
(Get an airtight container too.)
If you're picking up £10 every night you'll soon realise you're getting
ripped off.

cheers lads for proper replies
Will have to look out for a campus job then or sumin then, and yeh good old shout on the tinned tomatoes etc. I would say i can probably cook better than the average student as i was a chalet host in my gap year for 6 months and in the past i have at least slightly learnt the ways that fast food and shit aint cheap and doesnt satisfy for long!
Get a bar job, it's a piece of piss and very often you get free beer and food thrown in. It's also a good way to meet new people and get to know the area. Also the nature of the job means the hours are pretty flexible and sometimesit's cash in hand
Tip:
Work with the prettiest barmaid and you'll hardly have to pull a pint as everyone makes a beeline for her
hehe not sure if i would have the balls to do that in my halls, havent even seen my place yet but its not alien to me, got a thriving tomato plant in my green house in the garden right now
