Re: WORKS-IN-PROGRESS for SEPTEMBER, 2010
@jaydot -- nice drums, your mixes are getting a lot better man. perhaps roll off the highs on your mid bass or control them a bit, but as you said it's not mixed down yet.

Re: WORKS-IN-PROGRESS for SEPTEMBER, 2010
I've cut the highs and the bass sounds a lot better, I'll reup it tomorrow. Also added some percs but idk if they work on the track.

@ Jaydot. Your bass is distorting (in a bad way). That is all.

@Bradicle: Strong intro! That's pretty different, in a good way. Love the sub going on, but I think I hear a bit of hard clipping. Be careful with your levels. Nice melody!
@Jaydot: Lofi-bass kick? Or is that Soundcloud's fault? And I think I hear something audibly distorting; your bass is strong, but it might be too strong. Out of pure curiosity, what's your current/preferred DAW?
@Hakka: I love that drop. Loud, in your face, and surprisingly wobble-less. That's a great lead in, too. I wish I could get a DL and spectragram this -- I'm sure it'd look as good as it sounds.
So, I'm working on remixing a song without the original samples/synths. It's challenging/annoying. I bring you...

I use Ableton atm. Gonna check your tune out soon.... but EQd the distortion almost out of the bass here:kikaruu wrote:@Bradicle: Strong intro! That's pretty different, in a good way. Love the sub going on, but I think I hear a bit of hard clipping. Be careful with your levels. Nice melody!

@ Tylerblue - Hahaha cheers dude, i was going for the shit your pants drop. Might add another riser just to give it a bit more intesity. Your tune, top one in your sig. Love what you hav done with the vocals, sit really well. Wish i could get a bass to sound that warm and rib cage shaking!
@ bradicle - Love the intro again, reminds me of Skream with the little faded wobblez. Drop is grungy! Bit distrorted in places, cant put my finger on what it is. Love that airy synth, reminds me of emalkays leads. Would love to know how you got that sound!
@ kikaruu - lovely intro again! Nice drum work, love the datsik basses. Is that actually ripped from a datsik tune? Again would love to know how you made them synths. Im just an animal for high pitched low rumbling chainsaw leads lol. Great work all round fella
@ Jaydot - Bass sounds a little distorted still. Cowbell sounds nice! Bit of delay in there on the cowbells? If not, think it would work wonders. Just my opinion, but i would have a play about with diffrent basses or maybe add a tad of reverb and delay. Just to give it a slight tail in the mix.
Thanks for the kind words guys, always makes it worthwhile when someone is feeling my work, keep it

Think I'm a little high up the spectrum still, I could try shifting the EQ markers down especially towards the high end but it's all new to me so just getting my head around it. I'm cutting at about 5,5hz idk if that's too much?

Nah should be fine, i would just try and knock it down an octave or summet. Needs a rumble

Just added a bit more to this tune im working on, added some automation and FX. Also added some rain in the intro for that more of an eerie feel!

There is some noise in some of the drum samples which was taken from an old jazz record. Probably what you are hearing. Definitely aware, it is on purpose.five-ohh-what wrote:there seams to be a lil to much white noise in your bass but definatly a dope tune

Just switched to Presonus Studio One to start making some tunes - may I add it's a poor program! And I will most definitely be going back to Ableton..
However, this is the piece of shit I started making and I'm beginning to give up on.. any ideas would be great!
Man, everyones tracks here are miles better than mine, been working at producing for around 7-8 months now, and I'm getting better - just so slowly!

Going back to Ableton? Why not give Renoise a shot? It's what I use, and I've been loving it ever since I got it.Stebrah wrote:Soundcloud

On topic, I think what you have so far is a little static. There isn't any movement, although the introduction of the rest of the drums is a nice one. Right now, it feels like you're building up to something, but there isn't really anything to guide us there. Maybe some swells, atmospheric synths or such? Oh, and while I love panning, I think you took it a little too far. Instead of hard panning, why don't you pan at... 45 per cent, and then work your way forward to 80? You both keep definition and prevent that vacuum on one side. And then, use a very slight delay (35 ms on one side, 36 on the other) to sort of widen the sound, than cut the panning and widening to fall into the drop. Might I add that such a drop seems like it'd be killer?

Re: WORKS-IN-PROGRESS for SEPTEMBER, 2010
Stebrah - It might just be my speakers, but if you listen to it loud, when the snare comes in it really makes you flinch because it's so harsh. I think it could come down in the mix quite a lot. It's never really going to be drowned out because snare sounds are all hi-end.
helium101 - I really like the vibe you've got going there. I reckon you could drop into something really dark and bassy at around 1:50, but if that isn't your kind of thing then whatever. Some samples of jazz piano would be really nice every now and then too.
hakka - That's really awesome dude! A great start. It reminds me of Mobthrow - Substep Infrabass. I agree with five-ohh-what, the rain cutting out at the beginning is really weird. You should either find a longer sample or fade out. I'd go with the former. Automating the Semitone/Transpose setting on your bass sound would be quite nice. You could have it slowly pitch down on certain notes - that's always cool.
Looking forward to hearing all of these finished.
Here's my track. I've been trying to get away from the boring/generic wobble sound. It sounds good in some tracks, but not in any of mine really - so I thought I'd give this a go. Let me know what you think
