classical / baroque / prog influenced stepperz

Post by the_tleilax » Mon Sep 27, 2010 7:01 pm

So i came here today to see if anyone's posted any tracks pertaining to the influences mentioned in the subject... i saw that classical samples thread which def had some cool tracks, but what i'm looking for isn't about using samples. I'm looking for shit that is composed, with the instruments peeps are using to produce, in a prog sort of way with expanded harmonic structure, more complex chord progressions, etc. There doesn't have to be strings or other traditional orchestral sounds, just stylistically related to those genres in some way. Honestly it doesn't even have to be straight dubstep, just looking for somewhat related shit.

ANYBODY KNOW OF ANYTHING?!?!?

Not sure what your getting at?

Baroque/ classical styles composed using synths but still retaining the harmonic/ melodic/ rhythmic structure of the style?

Yeah more or less, synths or whatever it doesn't matter.... i just mean that the musical theory of the track is influenced by that stuff but in modern electronic produxion or something.

This isn't dubstep of course, but if you're familiar with Venetian Snares, he had an album called "Rossz Csillag Allat Szuletett" which was all classical style breakcore. He used a bunch of orchestral samples, which i don't care about, but the overall composition style is very much THAT versus actually the typical "breakcore" style.

I've never heard anything whatsoever like what I'm describing, but as I've been working on some stuff like that I wanted to hear what else exists, if anything.

I can't really imagine what it would sound like, i've never heard of anything like it....

What exactly about the baroque / classical period would be influencing the track?
I think of that stuff as extremely ornate in melodic development and harmony. I'd like to hear some techno that has the same intellectual standard as say Bach. That would be tight!

yes exactly! melodic & harmonic development in a baroque style, adhering to that sort of standard. one thing about dubstep is that in terms of melodies or chord progressions it tends to be extreeemely simplistic. obviously that's not the focus primarily, nor is it necessary, but i think it could be explored with great benefit.

this is a track based on bach/baroque style that i made, also influenced by dubstep of course... baroque-step

thanx... i hope to find some other peeps thinking along similar lines at some point. i wonder if i'd have to look more into some sort of "IDM" scene for that? i don't really follow it too much these days.

check out james blake
not baroque but a master of harmony...

a lot of grime is quite baroque-ish actually though
