how do you make wonky lead sounds?

Post by kojent » Thu Sep 23, 2010 10:03 pm

anyone care to share techniques used to get the higher pitched sounds you hear in dubstep? i`m talking about the really high wonky sounds....usually layered over sub.

doctor p - sick tonite rmx
flux pav - i can`t stop

not the newest tracks but those contain roughly the sound i`m asking about....i want to reverse engineer it or something similar...i think it gives tracks a really jungle/rasta kind of sound for some reason....i`m always messing around making bass sounds....that is one lead sound i`ve heard that has a certain character...unlike a lot of them which are usually quite simple.

i`ve got pretty close just detuned saws, and another set of squares 1pitched an octave down the other 2 octaves up....balance out the volumes for each osc.....its the filtering i can`t get exact i think....

Yeah joker uses a lot of hardware synths such as the Roland Juno 106 which has a classic phat chorus sound. .. Using lots of things like vibrato controlled by an envelope helps too.
