HELP "Jingly/tinny" sound

Post by bennnndaniels » Fri Oct 01, 2010 10:19 am

Ok, I know this is just something stupid to do with the jack converter or something but it's really bugging me...

Basically I am running a mini jack lead from the output of my mac into a full sized jack input on my mixer using a mini jack to jack adapter.
When I monitor my mixer the sound from my Mac is all jingly/tinny like it's cutting out certain frequencies... Is it because I need a certain type of jack to mini jack lead or?

If this helps; If I pull the big jack adapter out slightly it sounds good but obviously that's not ideal as I have to hold it there?

Thinking it's maybe something to do with mono/stereo or balanced/unbalanced?

HELPPPP! :(

Thanks in advance!

Your input is damaged.

Sorry it's hard to explain, it's not broken as If I plug my guitar in using a normal sized Jack to jack it sounds fine... I have over 8 inputs and they all work fine but when I do the above it goes all jingly...

Is your mixer input balanced? If so, you'll be feeding the Tip and Ring contacts the left and right signal from your mac, instead of the + and - versions of the same mono signal. My guess is that what you're hearing through the channel is the difference signal between left and right, ie some reverb, mp3 artifacts and other crap.

You need a stereo minijack --> 2x monojack adapter.

Brilliant! I'm going to purchase one today and see how it goes!
Thanks!
