I enjoy kick - 1, snare - 3
And let me just confirm i don't mean the youtube brostep with no other hats, cymbals or percussion.
If used well it's my favourite kick snare beat without a doubt, just seems so easy to nod your head and dance to.
Example, and probably my favourite ever Dubstep track.
I've always tried to stay away from just using kick, snare, kick, snare due to the bad press it's got within the scene, but i thought fuck it and now i'm using it in the track i'm working on.
It's got to be the right track for it to work, but when it does like Rob Sparx i don't think there's a better pattern to be honest. Anyone agree?

Ye man, nothing wrong with 1/3 at all.
Re: I enjoy kick - 1, snare - 3
agreed.. it's that solid backbeat that makes the rhythm feel so strong.. i mean honestly it's probably the basis for all or most of my tunes.. that is when the drums are doing some broken beat kinda thing, which can be cool at a 70bpm feel. that basic rhythm just gets embellished on throughout the tune and goes through many changes, but the basic boom THWACK boom THwack.... (or possibly boom THWACK ..... boomTHWACK) feel remains constant..

it's so natural. just makes you want to rock your body back and forth.
that being said, it really depends on the tune. there's countless songs with different snare placement that wouldn't sound the same if they had been "k1,s3"

It's great. I think it only gets flack when it's used in a very rigid pattern with no feel or groove. Like in tunes which the drums seem like an afterthought... when someone spends so much time making crazy synth noises but just throws in a simple drum pattern. That's when it can sound quite boring.

drums deserve just as much attention as everything else, if not sometimes more
Re: I enjoy kick - 1, snare - 3
it'd be worthwhile to note that with these "1/3" rhythms there's a lot more going on than just a kick and snare.
I think stripped down 1/3, i just hear Skream's Rumble Inna Station wobbling around my brainbox.

This just in: slow & heavy dubstep. A work-in-progress, so if you can, please provide feedback. Listen up!

Been saying this for a while I'm sure many agree.
"My brain is constantly playing kick - 1, snare - 3, I consider it the constant rhythm for my life in general."

This. I basically hate anything with that "brutal electro" sound; it sounds all like HUGLAGHALGHALGHAL
Re: I enjoy kick - 1, snare - 3
it gets a bit boring if it's just kick on the 1 and snare on the 3. i'm all for having a kick on the 1 and snare on the 3 but most of the time you need something else to make it groove.
Re: I enjoy kick - 1, snare - 3
case in point; the drums here are literally just the kick and the snare on the 1 and 3 and nothing else. and also this track rules
also; any eskmo track

Skream uses it a lot too. Where you should be and 8 Bit baby on 'Outside the box' both have kick1 snare3 off the top of my head.
