ableton live question

have been working with ableton live 6 for a bit now, and this problem has occured occasionaly and i forgot how i fixed it last time.
it happens when i am in the arrange view and am drawing in automation for a tracks paramaters. all of a sudden, seamingly out of nowhere, the parameters name (the parameter i have been working on) will turn grey, and it wont let me adjust it, or hear the automation any longer.

anyone know whats up?

go up to the top and click on "back to arrange" (it's at the top, middle bar). lemme know if that works.

i have had that happen numerous times. each time i freak out for about 2 minutes before i remember how to solve it.

it happens with me when i alter anything in session view that isn't the same as in arrangement view, or in reverse.
