"POTENTIAL" COMPILATION! Sortin out the Details...

Post by AfterEmpire » Wed Oct 06, 2010 1:27 am

Theres SOOOO much talent on these boards. Producers that are off the hook, DJs that know how to mix and get the party jumpin.
Were ALLLL tryin to get ourselves signed and get heard.

I think its about time that we all banded together and put out some DSF compilation Albums Completely Comprised of Original tracks contributed by our producers, Mixed together by the DJs who frequent our boards and maybe even with original Artwork provided by the Graphic designers here as well?

Why wait around and hope to get big all by ourselves when were all after the same goal and together we have a much louder voice? And the RANGE of talent that we have together is Infinitely greater as well.

Obviously every track that is submitted wont make the grade so I propose that a few of us with good ears for talent create a committee of judges, (which i would like to be a part of if it pleases the forum :D ) and the producers will all post up Soundcloud links to their tracks for consideration on submission. There are a lot of talented artists here and a lot of tracks and as such we will originally be looking at 3 to 4 Albums. So its my thought that they should be broken down by the judges into categories and placed on The album they fit the most.

At this point we would then need talented DJs to be selected to do the Mix which would ultimately become the album.

I think this is a fantastic idea that could really get us moving in the right direction.

TY all for ur time!

A noble idea but flawed for a few reasons:
  • people have different ideas as to how things are done (which is why you have different labels)
  • everyone has a different sound
  • reason why lots of people aren't picked up is probably because they aren't good enough
  • some people are too impatient :P
Like comedy, the longer you last before you're discovered, the more successful you'll be when you are.

Also, not everyone here is out to get signed, some of us do this purely as a hobby :)

I personally don't know why anyone would want to get signed - the amount of cash a producer makes is minimal at best - and you have to be one of those incredibly rare gems in order to make a decent living out of it. All the best in your endeavours!

There are some very talented people here. I see no reason why this couldn't work.

I'm just suggesting that those who are interested get together and do the thing that they love, as a community, as opposed to a pack of haters trying to trample everyone in their path.

How bout this, if ur interested in doing something along these lines, then respond. If not, why waste ur time?

Ive got a tune or two im interested in contributing too!

How bout this, I'm sure there are tracks you guys are willing to toss in, and others your keepin for yourselves.

I say we drop the names of the tracks that we wanna throw in, and we as a community sorta vote for which ones we should use?

Im gonna take a look at your guys soundcloud pages and ill reply about which ones I personally like.

Ive noticed that the nature of mixes is that they generally change and progress, build up in intensity and then break back down so I'm certain that all types of tracks will work for this!

So lets start gettin a good idea of which tracks are submitted and we will just start from there!

Cheers!

great idea (that will require tons of work and coordination - and thus dedication) that you guys should totally do if you can be so motivated. the idm forum folks have their own label. it can work, but don't expect it to be easy.

also, i know you want to get the djs involved, but i highly recommend individual tracks over mixed cds. or an option of either/or, but definitely offer the tunes unmixed.

big ups to the energy on this.

seen many a free release go by, and my single thought is this: anything worth doing is worth doing well. even if it's free, make it count. from as obvious as proper mastering & artwork on up to PR so that it really reaches folks who might be into it.

there's a huge wealth of talent on this forum-- definitely worth a project on this scale.

I tried doing this a while back based on themes, everyones real hyped and then no submissions come :? ...

If you try it again though, lemme know, be more then happy to contribute...

We also decided the legistics of communal sales was impossible and everything would have to be free...

So yeah...

I like this idea. I think we need to organize it better though, assign roles and such. As for the tracks, I believe we should have not only the deep dubstep, but also all the other crazy sub genres that people come up with. Basically, if it's banging, it's on the CD. DSF Sessions Vol. 1 will be huge! How bout getting someone to mix these together as well?

First off to Everyone whos Hyped on this, Much love.

I love the idea of using pretty much all related Genres just so long as they are close enough to Dubstep to fit in with the majority. If you have some Bass heavy DnB or Garage ish type stuff that happens to match, post your Soundcloud links! Drumstep DarkStep Popstep, lol whatever just so long as its along these lines.

@Codymackaz I agree 110% If its bangin, its on the CD. This is exactly right where we should all be at mindset wise.

@Basic A and Sharmaji: Free is exactly what it should be u guys are right, also right that this doesn't mean that it should be cheaply produced!
I kinda suck at PR, but i was reading on the strengths and weaknesses thread and a few cats said they had this down to a science. I really wouldnt be the one to lean on for this particular challenge. LOL
I know we have some folks who can Master as well. (PLEASE FEEL FREE TO CHIME IN! LOL)

As far as the mixing goes, I'm willing to mix all the tracks together if it turns out that no Djs step up to the plate!

Heres what I'm willing to throw in...

not to get ahead of ourselves, assuming this turns out and this is successful, we could have a different person spinning them for each compilation we come out with.

I would love more than anything to have a serious and talented DJ do the mixing AAANNNDDD also spin these mixes. I know a few Djs myself that i plan on getting a hold of as soon as this DSF sessions Vol.1 gets rolling. But these guys would be mostly spinning at shows, would be great to get a hold of someone for a studio mix session.
