ah i dunno then, just a mate of mine used the roger nichols frequalizer after i recommended it to him once and got the same delay thing going on.

well i use that all the time on ableton and never notice any delay being introduced, which is why i asked what DAW cos mate uses FL.

Linear phase eq has to delay the signal, by default.

Why do you need a linear phase eq?

A well-designed plugin should tell the DAW how much latency it introduces, though, so it can compensate (provided you're not monitoring live, obviously). Is there a "plug-in latency compensation" preference somewhere in your DAW that's unchecked?

But yeah, I would evaluate whether or not you really need one. They don't necessarily sound better. They're actually arguably worse on material with sharp transients, because they can introduce a small amount of pre-ringing. Nonlinear phase response is not necessarily a bad thing.

Trivia for the day: you can make any standard filter minimum-phase by running your audio through it first forwards, then once again backwards. :t:

Aye... I was trying to get at that - I think FL studio is one of the few that doesn't have PDC though :|

Ableton has delay compensation and it works great for most plug-ins including izotopes linear phase EQ but for some reason it doesn't work for Waves. I Use them sometimes during mixdown. I usually just switch between regular and linear phase just to see what sounds better for the sound...

Thanks for the reply's. I guess I should also ask for one that doesn't take a bunch of Cpu. I have Izotope ozone's linear phase but it takes to much Cpu to use very often...
