Re: DSF COMPILATION! Sortin out the Details...
I don't understand this attitude towards putting things up on soundcloud :s like someone (maybe you?) In another thread said that if you have a track on your soundcloud a label is less likely to want to sign it...but that just seems like rubbish to me. If you don't put any of your music up online nobody would ever hear it! all artists big and small have their top tracks available to listen to online, if you don't people assume the best you have to offer is your less good work and they never seek out your gems because they don't know they exist. It's not like your making them free to download, if someone likes a tune they are gonna buy it regardless of whether they can listen to it off your soundcloud. Only cheap twats who think free spotify is the only way of hearing music would do that.deadly habit wrote:plus then the entire tracks would have to online already and available for everyone to hear already which kind of defeats the purposeparavrais wrote:That would never work. same as submitting tunes that you have the full version plastered all up on your soundcloud and what not, that is if the intent for this to be something special
there i go being negative again
More on point, there's a bit difference between a people having their tracks on their soundclouds as they do now and having a collection available to download all together somewhere.

nah i'm saying have clips up if you want, having the full tune up just devalues it that's the point me and i think it was paradigm x made in a thread earlier
like i'm not gonna try to shop around what i have in my sig unless i change it up a bunch
i think you'll agree that the bigger guys who have stuff up is already released and not full versions of forthcoming material

Re: DSF COMPILATION! Sortin out the Details...
yeah, its generally bad look putting every tune you ever finished online asap.
bad quality control. better:
play it on as many systems you can.
tune is good?
send it out to djs you trust,
or if you play out yourself, play it out.
see how the crowd reacts.
hear how it translates on the big systems.
tune is still good and is getting good reactions?
it will get a lil hype eventually.
now send out to labels you trust. (or release it yourself if you do so).
most real labels willl get real demos.
not a soundcloud link open to everyone.
see, nowhere here i had the urge to post it everywhere on the forumz and interwebz and make myself a shabby self whoring name.

Aah, I suppose your right. I'm still real new to this game and finding my feet in all areas. The PR side I definitely need to work on :\ to be honest I put every track I finish up in full on my soundcloud instantly to try and get feedback though most of them I finish I think are shit so it doesn't really matter if they are devalued. I do have one song I've made I'm really proud of now though...don't really wanna take it off soundcloud cos I've never really got comments on tune before and it makes me feel good having all those little boxes under it...must make me seem real sad to you guys.deadly habit wrote:nah i'm saying have clips up if you want, having the full tune up just devalues it that's the point me and i think it was paradigm x made in a thread earlier

First off how do i Say "Deadly ur a dick!" in an offhand joking manner on the internet so that He and everyone else who reads it understands that I'm just joking.
Oh I did it successfully?
Cool. Cool.
Seriously tho, Deadly has a lot of valid points! Even if he is very blunt about what he says. I admire that cuz I'm the same way myself.
I wish it could be the type of thing where we could vote and all that junk but the truth is, without a few heads with a chosen system to just "Make the Executive Decision" this shit would never leave the realm of speculation. And We already have a great idea on how to make the picks.
It seems the 4 judges are all very Unbiased and just interested in solid tracks. This will be where we start out. No worries about which genres will be accepted for submission, just add in what you consider to be Worthwile submissions, not every track on ur soundcloud page.
These submissions will be accepted Via the soudcloud group page already created and I'll post the link to said page once a little more discussion has gone on!
Another toast to deadly on this idea: If your gonna post your track to the above mentioned soundcloud group page, PLEASE make sure that its locked so that Public viewers roaming your site wont be able to browse it. If its on ur site already then whatever right? because if ur interested in this then your just like me and more than a few hundred cats prolly havent heard the track anyways, but still. If we can help it lets try and keep these tracks anonymous till the drop date.
I'm down to get the ball rolling on the Artwork 2moro and i already have a good idea to start rollin with.
Does anyone know where I can find out which "netlabels" are affiliated with DSF?

Re: DSF COMPILATION! Sortin out the Details...
I jsut wnana point out that when me and deadly were attempting to put together a 10 track release of DSF dubs, we got 2 submissions from non-steady forum members, and that was it. I think your really overestimating things, even if everyone wants to act like we're being rude for being honest.paravrais wrote:That would never work. And it beats the elitist council idea.
Also, I want to point out that although the tune comps get few votes, me n nowaysj had a tune battle and got over 100 people too. With the sample pack/vst comps a big reason people arent voting is because your not hyping. Promote if you want attention. I know me n noways had links n stuff up on our social networks and the like. You get what you put in, and in the music industry, you gotta put in way more then music.
Something like this, you can expect epople to participate if you dont hype it thoroughly.

Hah
As predicted.
descended into bickering less than 24 hours before i return lol.
Firstly Deadly is not negative. He has a lot of experience on both sides of running a netlabel as do I.
If you dont want it treated as a joke its a lot of hard work with a vision, which is why only a few are notable (exegene, early darklands, thinner etc).
Exegene for example had a proper site, proper artwork, rotating banners for each new release, bob went mad getting known/signed people to contribute. For every one he asked im sure 10 knocked him back. Promo mixes. A net radio show every week. Stickers. Etcetcetc.
Its not like making a few forum posts and it all comes together.
Some noob (no offence) shoving everything thru hiphop master3 in ozone is jokes, especially if even considering charging !
Most if not all of the subvert netlabels pay macc even for the free releases.
Webspace i said ill provide but to the point of giving login details to someone who knows what theyre doing, not getting involved.
People who cant even take a bit of practical and realistic advice are what cause all the problems, as i said before. Hence why label by committee is a crap idea. It needs someone to be in charge (or 2-3 max) to take control.
Has anyone considered that the owners of the site may need to be consulted if the dsf forum name is to be used, i cant see them wanting 14 crap badly mastered brostep tunes flaunted as an official dsf release. Just as an example.
Deadlys only trying to provide the knowledge youre going to need if this isnt just some idle speculation.
And if youre going to go that far why not do a proper label?
See, im prob 'being negative' too but its just reality. Flame away.
Oh and btw, single releases with a mix as promo, standard.
(im a bloke BTW)

And i cant emphasise enough, dont put your full quality full lengths tracks on soundcloud/youtube./public. Its insanity. (clips why not).
Why would anyone sign anything thats been flaoting around for free for ages.
Send em to DJs.
Or put up clips and wiat for reactions. 21/2 mins starting at just before drop.
Youre shooting yourself in the foot, knees, thighs, bollocks then in the face for good measure.

Im not biased or favouritist or anything, just youre speaking the truth. Having done it before !
THe issue is that the only problem the new guys have is too much enthusiasm and not enough realism. So we come across as h8rzzz.
It seems like were trying to piss on their campfire, but were not. Trying to either point in right direction or save them a load of grief. I hope thats obvious as well.
