How do you Process Your reece's

So i recently purchased KONTAKT. The sounds i'm trying to make are of the dark nature, like Triage's remix of "Boom" or "Pitbull. By no means am i trying to be like Triage but i would very much like to know how to make those type of sounds. Now i'm presuming they start with a reece (please correct me if i'm wrong), so i start by making my reece in MASSIVE. Then i create a pattern i'm happy with, save it externally, then import it to KONTAKT. From there i'll add phaser and so on.

I Hear people talking about adding a certain amount of effects, then saving externally again, then re-importing and adding more to that and continuing this process untill they have the sound they are after. Not really too familiar with the terminology used with sampling but thats pretty much how i read it.

Am i on the right track?

make sound,
export sound,
import sound to kontakt,
mess with sound,
export
import
mess with
and so on

Is there anything else i should take into consideration?
