Back in the Game

Post by jamminb » Wed Oct 13, 2010 12:16 pm

Hi all,

After a broken PC, new job, and a kid, I'm finally getting ready to step back into production - it's been about 4 years since I last made a tune!
I've still got all my software, decks and vinyl but have had to buy a new PC - I went for a laptop (due to lack of space!) I'll be running SX2 and Kontakt amongst other things.

Now, before I can get producing I need to get two things:
  • External sound card
Set of headphones (I do have monitors and PA but they are not set up due to space!)

Could anyone please recommend decent usable sound cards and headphones?

Thanks
Ben

What kind of specs are you looking for with each?

Well I just want to get producing again, I don't have much money so something cheap. I'd like the headphones to have a flat frequency repsonse if possible but other than that, not to fussed.

Is it possible to get a usable external sound card on a budget - £100 ish? Or am I just wasting my money on something that cheap?

Thanks
Ben

My mate has an Edirol UA-25 sound card, i dunno too much about it but its standard issue, fairly cheap and does the job, my mates had one working with no trouble for a gd few years now.

I would defo check the stickies up above there are fairly extensive threads on sound cards and monitors. It wouldn't hurt if you stated how much you want spend. Defo decent low priced options for both.
