Non Dubstep Tunes played at Dubstep nights

Post by jaime » Tue Mar 20, 2007 1:39 pm

One thing that is great about going to dubstep nights (amongst a million other things) is now and again hearing something a little different

Of course down at FWD we are always getting skanked out to plenty of dub, this goes without saying. But I have heard on night's out

Once heard Skream drop the instrumental to Me, Myself and I (SICK!)apparently Kode9 played a Prince song at a DMZ i couldnt make last year

I heard that someone played Put your hands up for detroit at FWD not long ago too, can that be true?

What tunes have you heard on night's out that don't fit the classic dubstep mould?

peace

:D Phil is a legend! Nuff love for Phil...

D1 played the "...detroit" tune, he was b2b with youngsta, played it as a joke. Think it got about 10 seconds of play b4 youngsta ripped it off the decks - was sooo jokes!

Skream played funkadelic - (not just) knee deep - classic! I love interesting set openers. This has been something of a DMZ tradition. Started by DMZ themselves i guess. Was great to hear See Mi Yah at the last one.

I remember when he ended on that at Fabric, he got some proper confused looks. Great tune though, spaced out, glitchy weirdo dub with vocals that sound like Prince on cough syrup. Would like to know what it is too.

It is ALL about showing your musical insides... K9 dropping Sign of the Times made a whole lot of sense not only coz he'd done a cover of it.... but its one of the heaviest tunes written by a human being. Assuming Prince is not an alien.

I reckon these wildcard tracks are some of the most inspiring moments at nights... hopefully people realise that artists like Mala, Loe, 9, Benny Ill make mind blowing music because they listen to all sorts of stuff outside of dubstep.

And I am all with Boomy on that other new bit 9's dropping too - it is the absolute tits.
