Dubstep vs. UK Garage
Not posted in a while....
Got bored today and made a short mashup of UK Garage and Dubstep.
Still cant decide if it's blasphemy or genius. Would this go down well in a club?
Or would people just stand there looking confused?! Let me know.
Only did it for an experiment so don't be too abusive if you don't like it.
1. DJ Narrows - Saved Soul (Refix) vs. Benga and Coki - Night
2. DJ Wire - Believe Me vs. Katy B - Katy On A Mission
3. Benny Page - Panpipes vs. Ms Dynamite - Boo!
4. DJ Zinc - Go DJ vs. Magnetic Man - I Need Air
5. Magnetic Man - Mad - vs. DJ Luck and Shy Cookie - Troublesome
6. Chase and Status - Eastern Jam vs. The Prodigy - Smack My Bitch Up
Made the individual tracks first, then mixed them all into a set.

Re: Dubstep vs. UK Garage
not blasphemy in the slightest - i mean dubstep is garage really. dubstep and uk garage works together fantastically and i wish more people were playing old garage in their sets. it's been getting quite a resurgence with people like oneman and the hessle guys recently though which is good
bit much going on at times in that mix but the narrows vs night mashup at the start was wicked

Re: Dubstep vs. UK Garage
Does Narrows produce Dubstep at all??? He should.
I remember on that Skream interview he said he was influenced by darker bass driven garage but wanted to minimalise it. Keep the bass and lose the emcees and unecessary beats. Narrows smashed it with Saved Soul.
Also, can anyone remember the names of any other dark Garage tunes??? Might try and do it again but a bit less hectic. Too many vocals maybe.

Re: Dubstep vs. UK Garage
Yes, I got 8 DVD's from Ebay about 3 years ago, this dude had ripped his entire garage collection from vinyl. So I have it on MP3, am off work 2morro so can send it over?
Am pretty sure the version on my mix is a refix (I think it was made by my friends friend actually!)
PM me your email address and I can send it over???

Re: Dubstep vs. UK Garage
he had a thing out on heavy artillery in 2008. was alright but nothing like the same level as his garage. really wish some of the garage producers wouldn't try to make dubstep because a lot of the time it's pretty uninspired

Wanted to put Agent X - Decoy or Turbulence in there somewhere but could't find them!
I miss the Garage days.
See what you mean about the Narrows tunes. Not the best.
Yeah, any bass driven garage tunes you can think of let me know. I have literally loads of tunes from the DVD's I bought just need the names so I can find them!!!

Re: Dubstep vs. UK Garage
i've been getting a bit obsessed with garage and grime recently. i missed it at the time because my perception of it was that it was all chart shit that i hated - how wrong i was
depends what you mean by dark garage i guess but here's a few
i'm a big fan of tunes with these kinds of dark basslines and cheesy vocals over the top but i don't know if you could call that kind of stuff "dark"

can't say i really agree with that though. it's hard to track a lot of this stuff down so perhaps it's a bit different to pirating current releases but you should look for legitimate copies if you like them that muchMrMaxxstar wrote:I have literally loads of tunes from the DVD's I bought just need the names so I can find them!!!

Re: Dubstep vs. UK Garage
Yeah, that 8 DVD thing. I see what you mean.....BUT....
I do have a load of Garage vinyl and used to DJ it back in the day. Still have it all. I bought the DVD's to sort of fill in the gaps where I wanted high quality copies of tunes I didn't get at the time.
It is a bit bad really. Sorry?!

Re: Dubstep vs. UK Garage
it depends what you're doing with them. at the end of the day the money from buying a second hand record doesn't go back to the artist anyway so it's a bit different pirating stuff that's long out of print to brand new releases that might sell otherwise. bit of a grey area really
