PC World/Currys!!
Okay, so PC World/Curry's have had my laptop for repair since the begining of spetember now - I bought it around the 20th of august and then didn't use it for about 2 weeks as I was n hospital - as soon as I started using it I noticed the hard drive was totally fucked as it keep crashing for up to 20 minutes at a time - that's beside the point anyway was just wandering if there is anything in the law that says I can demand either a full refund or a replacement because this is takin' the piss! I nee dthe laptop not only for production but also for uni work etc? Has anyone dealt with them before and had a similar experience and no how I can get the incompotent fuckwits to hurry the process up or no anything about consumer law and what rights I have?
Cheers guys,

Yeah I though it might be that - but it was literally from the moment I opened it - hadn't even installed any software on it!legend4ry wrote:For the record, it was probably over heating and you should of invested in one of those usb cooling fans.

I'm currently on hold!! Somebody is going to get shouted at!!
Here's tip for anyone else reading this thread - do not bother with PC World or Currys! They are fucking useless!
Re: PC World/Currys!!
Doesn't matter, if the hardware setup is dodgey you could have a fresh install of windows and it'll still crash/bluescreen from overheating, thats the problem with a lot of laptops these days - the cooling is shite!GRAYSKALE wrote:Yeah I though it might be that - but it was literally from the moment I opened it - hadn't even installed any software on it!legend4ry wrote:For the record, it was probably over heating and you should of invested in one of those usb cooling fans.

Also, I wouldn't go through any major chain for anything electrical - not even a tele.

Re: PC World/Currys!!
yeh invest in a usb cooling fan to sit underneath it. although my laptop was fine wen i first had it, after about a year or so it started overheating and bluescreening all the time. Got one of those fans for a tenner and its been perfect ever since, and this is three years on!

Re: PC World/Currys!!
if computers get bashed about a bit the paste that conducts the heat from the processors to their heat syncs can get fucked up and yep, overheats. A new pc shouldnt do that though, sounds like some monkey that works for them or their distribution chain has dropped it/thrown it/knocked it etc somewhere along the way. In theory a brand new pc should never need an additional part to cool it right off the bat, although a lot of high end graphics card manufacturers seem to walk disgracefully close to that line model after model. That said, get the cooler like people are saying, because its a laptop it will get bashed about in its lifetime and theres not a lot of room in there for circulation.
Im suprised theyre even trying to fix it if its new, I would have thought they would just replace it right off the bat. It could be a case of that particular store being a bunch of mongs, keep rinning up and if they dont say what you like ask for the supervisor, if you dont like what he has to say ask for their head office complaints number and just keep going over their helmets untill one of them shits himself and gives you a new one.

Pro tip: shouting doesn't work. Being calm and not loosing your temper will actually get you further then being one of those fucking wank customers who think they are right. They are mostl likely to help you if you get on their good side and feel concerned for you / feel sorry for you. Shouting just makes them not give a fuck. If it's still under the manufactuers warranty they'll send it off for repair again. They'll no way give you a full refund if it's out of the 30 returns policy. Even though you didn't use it until you got out of hospital, still no proof and something could of happened to it. Yeah it's shitty but that's how it goes. Also, PC World and Currys are gash anyway.Somebody is going to get shouted at!!
I've worked in electronic retail for bare long.

Came with 2.3 Ghz i5 Processor, 4gb Ram and a 500mb hard drive - pretty nice specs to be honest! ANyways problem has been resolved - I spoke to the customer support and as soon as I dropped in a few lines from the Sales of Goods Act they were alot more willing to help! As for the Fan thing I'm definately investing in one when my replacement comes!

under your statutory rights if something goes wrong even 6months down the line you still have the right to a refund.Shekul wrote: They'll no way give you a full refund if it's out of the 30 returns policy. Re: PC World/Currys!!
Only if it's in a resellable condition, not been used, seal not broken etc. Companies always find a way around statutory rights...Although they are entitled to an exchange for a new one or something else similar value. I'm just basing this on 3 previous electronic retail compaines ive worked for.symmetricalsounds wrote:under your statutory rights if something goes wrong even 6months down the line you still have the right to a refund.Shekul wrote: They'll no way give you a full refund if it's out of the 30 returns policy. 100% agree with Shekul, having worked in a customer services call centre for 2 years I would always go out of my way to help those I felt proper sorry for and got me on their side it always has to be remembered from my experience that I couldnt give two shits about the company I worked for as long as I wasnt being monitored I just wanted to make people happy to have an easy day, those that come on and just start shouting and telling me im going to get a phone shoved up my arse get their personal details put on the list and get read the terms and conditions script, get them to sympathise and you can probably get things done, best of luck.Shekul wrote:Pro tip: shouting doesn't work. no it can be used as how else would you know there is something wrong with it if it hasn't been used. companies try to get out of statutory rights but IME a well-worded letter that shows you actually understand what they are solves the problem.Shekul wrote:Only if it's in a resellable condition, not been used, seal not broken etc. Companies always find a way around statutory rights...Although they are entitled to an exchange for a new one or something else similar value. Re: PC World/Currys!!
They should repair it within 14 days, store exchange policy is within 28 days of purchase unfortunately.

Fair enough, just don't think any retailer will refund you a product that has been used and is over the 30 day returns policy. And if they do, DEY BE CRAZYYYYY MON. End of discussion this is a music production forum. Vex'd is a pretty cool guy eh.symmetricalsounds wrote:no it can be used as how else would you know there is something wrong with it if it hasn't been used. companies try to get out of statutory rights but IME a well-worded letter that shows you actually understand what they are solves the problem.Shekul wrote:Only if it's in a resellable condition, not been used, seal not broken etc. Companies always find a way around statutory rights...Although they are entitled to an exchange for a new one or something else similar value. Tip for anyone else that might find themselves in the same position is to just be persistent and keep pestering them - they'll just get fed up with you and give in to your demands!
