@hasezwei: I totally understand, and agree almost completely. I thoroughly enjoyed that first vid, btw. Will check them out
. My personal tastes put skrillex slightly above average, his tracks do the job pretty damn well (I love dancing so anything that's fun to move to i'll just eat up), but he isn't very original and he isn't what i'd consider great, not even close.

FUCK. YES.south3rn wrote:you have people who have poured gallons of blood, sweat, and tears into this scene since before skream ever made his first tune, when the music was pure, the scene was small and close knit. although i don't have as much experience as a lot of people, i'm very protective of what i think dubstep is and what it should/could be and i can only imagine what a lot of londoners have invested (monetarily and emotionally) in this music.rez pez wrote:whatever is getting really popular starts to make people form the idea that its the quintessential sound of the genre. when the sound is such a deviation from what people like, or if someone takes a step back and thinks about how these songs are being seen as representing the current 'scene', people realize that its not how they want it to be represented
dubsteps about variety anyways.
when i got into dubstep, it was all about atmosphere, minimalism, and meditation. ask anyone on the street what "dubstep" is now and they tell you it's all aggro wobble filth noise from a bunch of ras trents. it really makes me sick, sick to the point i don't use the term "dubstep" in context of the current popular form, or at all because people assume i love borgore.
when i started posting on this forum, the big names posted. some still do, but not to the point i used to see. i'm sure it's because all these diaper wearing amateurs just make them slap their foreheads. the disrespect and ignorance is amazing.
variety? sure. watering down the first original scene i was able to be a part of since its inception? fuck no.
rant over. if you still don't get it, go through tempa's back catalog and tell me it in any way resembles what a lot of people claim their "dubstep" to be.
what used to be "meditate on bassweight" has become "f1lthy dub shit1!111 woobble wobble YEAH D00D"
Re: why do you hate skrillex?
this is ridiculously fun though

@allnightdaydream: glad you liked it

hahahahhaahah dude, you obviously missed what i meant as i was saying that thats the shame of it all. i was responded to why people hate so and so. the music we like is nothing without variety, what is popular now lacks any variety and its all a novelty. i love how you just attempted to prove yourself and what dubstep is to me... cool story bro, very touching.
Re: why do you hate skrillex?
No need to be so hostile about it. He misunderstood you... And what he said is still fucking true
TBH I misunderstood you as well, it's your fault for being so ambiguous about it. It sounded like you were talking about people who were complaining about producers straying from what "established dubstep" is...

why is it you seem like a blatant troll so i have the perfect picture to describe you, hopefully you can work it outOiWOLF wrote:the first post was why do you hate skrillex i dont understand why or something? so it wasnt pin pointed at you it was just my thoughts about why some people might dislike him, and in some cases it is jealousy, dont get on your high horse buddy

i dont see why people care about this tho. its not like dubstep as a whole is shallow...people should've accepted and embraced the fact that these mainstream and souless tunes get all the recognition because the things we like are gems and maybe even more so because of it. sounds like people are just pissed off they cant sound cool by saying a one liner that has the word dubstep in it anymore.

Oh, you Skrillex. What have you done?

Re: why do you hate skrillex?
Reason I hate him is because he's a trend hopper (and his music sucks, very generic no matter what music he makes). He hopped onto the emo trend instantly and now hes suddenly hopping on the dubstep bandwagon, to be fair I give props to the guy, hes making a mint of the idiots of the world.
Total waste in my opinion.

Re: why do you hate skrillex?
People care way too much about what others think, do what you do.
Re: why do you hate skrillex?
Big up the skrillex too sick
Re: why do you hate skrillex?
If dubstep was masterchef, Skrillex would drop a big fat turd on a plate and sell it for 20 quid. Some people fancy that.
I'd rather not eat.

Re: why do you hate skrillex?
what's a skrillex?
Re: why do you hate skrillex?
I didn't know this guy existed 2 weeks ago. I just noticed his new album is blowing up the Beatport MAIN chart. Dang. Fair play to him honestly but he means as much to me and my music as every other producer that has put a dent in the beatport main chart, essentially nothing. But to be honest since Datsik and Boregore and all that crap, those of us that have been around forever are all of a sudden being told that what we do isn't dubstep lol. I don't know. I have a feeling we haven't seen the worst this genre can bring us. It is going to be real tough to grin and bare.
Re: why do you hate skrillex?
yeah i hadnt heard of him until someone posted on here he was bestseller at beatport?fractal wrote:tbh this is only the second time i've heard of him... not my thing, but i don't think it's bad enough to warrant hate. just some more of that middle of the road stuff

Re: why do you hate skrillex?
I think some of you are getting worked up on behalf of people who, in reality, don't care that much, and will continue to push their own sounds regardless. Dubstep is still a massively diverse scene (check the Dubstep 101 thread), and you are not obliged to embrace all styles within it. But at least appreciate the fact that they are able to co-exist along side one another.
Re: why do you hate skrillex?
I'm just waiting for him to name his own sub-genre [Skrill-core-step] that seems to be the only way "hardcore" cigarettes over here know how to distinguish them self's from each other . No but seriously I hate this cheesy bullshit more than anything and feel that there were literally hundreds of songs before this that should have been in it's place on beatport.
