You can process live input easily in most DAWS. The process in most DAWs would be somehting similar to this.

Create a sequencer channel.
Select the corresponding audio input from your soundcard that you want to feed to into the channel.
Place insert FX on the channel.
Play your instruments, synths or live vocals and it should be processed by the insert fx on the channel.

i got it working u just have to hit the little speaker button on the track, press arm and make sure u have the right input by pressing the little in button
futures_untold wrote:Okay, I downloaded the demo of Albino 3 to see if I could suss why you can't hear any changes to the sound.

When used as an insert effect, that is, after another synth directly on the same FX list, it doesn't route the sound 100%. (Actually it does, but the original audio is still present 'dry' underneath. Sadly, I'm unsure how to turn down the dry signal so you're only left with the wet signal...)

Using two channels however, we can route the audio 100% wet through Albino for proper processing! :)

------------------------------------------------------------------

Set up two channels, the first with your source sound you wish to process with Albino, the second with Albino itself.

Initialise Albino with the 'zz_ini't patch found in the 'Diverse Sounds' patch bank.

Select 'Audio Input' on Oscillator 1.

On the channel with Albino, click the 'I/O' button.

Add a new recieve from which ever track you have your source material.

Once the new recieve has been created, you should see something saying 'Audio:1/2 v => 1/2 v'

Click the second '1/2' and select 'New channels on recieving tracks: 3/4'

Open the Albino FX window and in the top right corner, click on '2 In 2 Out'.

You will see the routing grid. click on the + button to add more ins and outs from Albino.

Click on the grid for inputs 3/4 so it looks like the grid for in/outs 1/2.

Uncheck the boxes for the inputs on the 1/2 grid.

Finally, you should eb able to test your signal is passing 100% wet through Albino by using the LP or HP filter and turning the filter cutoff to the extremes.

-------------------------------------------------------

You should now be able to set up routing inside Albino as you would normally, i.e, for the FX section.

If you want to use the ADSR envelopes, you'll need to trigger them using midi. By default, Reaper should have routed the midi from the source channel to the Albino channel. If not, just draw in midi directly onto the Albino channel in the usual way.

You may wish to drag the Albino channel above the source channel and make it into a folder track. If you set the source channel as the last track in the folder, you can then collapse the track so it is out of view.
but now im trying to do this with my mc307 but it doesnt work. if i put a vst on the track thats getting sent to albino it works but not with the audio from the 307. tried it with a regular effect other than albino and it didnt work either so im guessing its something with reaper

Right click on an empty part of the area where the sequencer channels sit on the left handside.

Select the option 'show master channel' (Ctrl-Alt-M).

Automate as usual. 8)

quick question.. (btw, props to alphacat for tipping me off with reaper, i think as soon as i get the hang of it my producing skills and motivation go way up :t: )

i'm using readrums for beats, and when i try to stretch the midi event to make more room for drums in the piano roll ie. more "midi item", it just duplicates whatever i already made, seen? appreciate any help

Nice to have you aboard! :T:

Put your cursor over the end of the midi file, hit ALT (the cursor turns into a little hand at this point) and drag it to the right while holding down ALT - timestretch a la Reaper. All items in Reaper can be stretched this way (for .wav files there's also a bunch of different stretch algorithms for different jobs... hit F2.)

All this and more are covered in the User Guide though. Just slog through the first 2/5ths of it and you'll be off and running; it's not quite as easy to just jump right in like it is with Acid - BUT - once you learn just some of the basics, you'll probably agree that it's ultimately a better workflow.

thanks for trying to help but thats not really what im after. alt + stretching makes it just kinda "slower", timestretches as you said. what i'm trying to do is to make more room for the drums, like extend the midi event so it can fit more stuff. sorry for the poor explanation. but i'll look into the manual, thanks!

Oh, duh!

Yeah - just double click the MIDI clip itself; when you're in the piano roll/step editor, just move the end bracket wherever you like.

Now go read that manual and get crackin'! :m:

for some reason there's an error when i try to open the manual. but manual's for beginners anyway innit? 8) i guess this thread will have to do for a manual. but huge thanks anyway bruv you're been great help :h: :4:

EDIT: I know i'm asking an awful lot in this thread so apologies..
but the great thing about acid was that all samples imported into the project were transformed into the project tempo automatically. how does this work in reaper? for example, i mounted a tambourine sample in 130 bpm into readrums, but the project is 140bpm, how do i make it faster? thanks a lot and excuse my stupidity

Reapers manual is comprehensive and covers features that aren't immediately obviously.

The manual can be downloaded as a PDF from http://www.reaper.fm/userguide.php.

It is well worth trying to download and open the user guide in my opinion.

-------------------------------

There are several ways to extend midi items so that they cover longer time periods. The first is to quantise it to the length you want using the quantise tool. (Select your item then press Q.)

The second way was mentioned above. Double click the midi item to open the midi piano roll, then drag the large thick marker on the right hand edge of the loop further to the right to extend it. You may have the midi item looped, in which case you'll find the loop length marker is in the indented part of loop in between the first and second iteraton of the loop.

-------------------------------

To import loops at a set tempo, use the media explorer to find the loop, then select the import type you'd like to use. This works for rexes too, but all loops can be set to automatically fit the length of a bar.

Refer to the manual about time stretching loops and import options.

If the loop is already in the sequencer, select it and press F2 to alter its time stretch properties. There is an action that can be assigned which will automatically time stretch the selected item or portion of an item to the length of the loop markers. It may be worth while checking that out, although the import options would be quicker to work with.

Hope that helps!

and oh yeah, how can i automate separate effects, not knobs within synths? i mean, i've got readrum and sony simple delay within a track, and i want to automate the delay in a certain part of the midi item in piano roll. get it?

RTFM, seriously. Once I did it's a breeze. Just scan any section that seems applicable.

FX button on a track opens plugins on that track.

Automate by hand w/ the "trm" button. This opens an automatable parameters list, go to the correct plugin and check off the one you want. If the list is huge- right click on "trm" button and change automation setting to "touch". Then open plugin window and move the knob/slider to automate (automation lane opens under track), switch back to trim mode and go. A tip: drag the automation lane so it's really tall, helps w/ "resolution" of points...

Question: has anyone here been able to successfully run the new DSK Overture plugin? Weirdest thing... Reaper doesn't even "see" it.

yo. How, in reaper, do you make the output of a track mono, even if theres audio on the track thats stereo? I know a way i think that does it but im unsure if its doing what i want it to! A little confused!

sometimes i wish it worked like logic and you could just hit somthing on the mixer track and make it mono but alas you cannot.

i use an imaging vst. usually i use the waves s1. it seems to use very little cpu.
