Any dubstep producers using a Mac? Need some help :)

Post by Steve AC23 » Tue Feb 21, 2006 5:10 pm

Anyone running a Mac?

What software do you run?

Im having bare problems with Cubase SX 1.06 and Waves Diamond 5.2 Plugin Pack

As soon as install the Waves Diamond, Cubase crashes at the splash screen when its trying to start....anyone else have this problem? Or maybe a work around?

Does anyone have Waves 4 and running it fine? I cant find it to try :(

After this, Im thinking Im going to haveto sell my G5.

I can't afford to buy a copy of SX3
:x :(

Cheers

If waves are crashing your system, don't use Waves.

Yeah the waves plug ins are the shit. I use them in practically every tune. The problem sounds like a missing dll file, I had the same problem when I installed the waves 3 package. Either hunt down a different install for the plugins or just fuck em off, there are plenty of other plugins capable of doing just as good as a job as the waves.

There are loads of plugins out there that can rival or better Waves, just look around for ones that you like.

.. the problem lies with Cubase SX1 being old and the VSTs arent compatable.

Gonna haveto move sequencers.
Never really liked Logic Exp.7
look like ill haveto use it now, gonna try Digital Performer too :D

Probably go with Logic if you guys are success with it, cheers :D

If it's an SX crack, it's likely to crash anyway. If it's a Waves crack, and an SX crack, then crashes are very likely indeed. If it's SX1, that's a lot less stable than SX3.

But don't pay 350 quid for SX. Pay 99 for Cubase SE. You really don't need all the stuff that's in SX -- surround etc. See http://www.dv247.com/invt/29688/ for features and pricing. It's got:

* 48 Audio tracks and unlimited MIDI tracks
* Professional 24/96 recording
* Up to 16 VST instrument slots
* 5 insert effects and 8 send effects per channel
* VST System Link and ReWire 2-compatible
* VST audio and MIDI plug-ins included
* Video thumbnail track for building your own video soundtracks
* Technology and user interface based on Cubase SX3/SL3
* Fully automatic delay compensation for plug-ins
* Enhanced user interface (same “look and feel” as Cubase SX3)
* Improved Hitpoint detection for tempo adjustments of audio loops

And so on.

I wouldn't go the Logic route personally because I think it's over-complicated, but the full version has fantastic plug ins and many people do love it to bits. There's a cheaper version of Logic as well for 169 quid. http://www.dv247.com/invt/27714/

Or, you could get Reason, which will get you up and running a lot quicker, but will cost you three hundred notes.

Pays your money and you makes your choice. Reason would be best in terms of actually getting stuff done -- your biggest cost isn't your software, it's your time.

If any of you are teachers, or know teachers, have them buy you Cubase... it is half off. You can do it on sites like www.academicsuperstore.com. Also, Mac gives a 10% discount to teachers.

I have dual 2.5 G5 w/ Logic 7 - State of the art tools if you ask me... I also use reason, recycle & absynth. Logic 7 was designed for the G5 and is easy to use if you have any prior experience with any recording software.. I highly recommend if you keep your mac!! :D
