its just typical... theres always that properly skilled but not overthinking dude that makes everyone nervous... to me they're on a certain purity level that explains why they are loved so much... i love both of them.

now, to talk about mt eden on a datsik excision thread is bad. the mt eden argument simply proves one thing : simplistic music appeals to simplistic minds.. and its always been like that.. the media doesnt just water down music and brings it to a point of unskillfulness just for the sake of it.. they do so cause it sells : people are less scared of something they dont know but can apprehend then of something they dont know neither can apprehend. (need to mention here that youtube hits and the mt eden example which by now is sweat out is not relevant in a business-type talk as they are a mere internet phenomenon with no serious market value... sorta like rick astley's comeback... minus the skills). mt eden doesnt only get views because they do remixes... they just vugarize stuff beyond possible by transvestising technique.. and that is always a winner in new-genre contexts... in that field, they have skills tho, i admit and respect that aspect of their, ahem, work.

now back to the thread...

i can only have empathic thoughts for our brother jay who IS right when he talks about Datsision Wannabes. As most artists, im pretty sure even the men themselves woudlnt pick themsleves as their own artistic role models... So jay didnt fail... and the young grasshoppers on this forum should take his comment seriously.. lets just hope that type of copy-cat obsession is the gate of a whole new world of sonic landscapes to a generation of youngsters who, like me, once got mesmerized by the sound we all cherish..

I guess the right argument for that type of copycat-mob effect is the following : DO YOU. it was very useful in hip hop when i was just starting to put beats together.

KIDS : YOU WILL NEVER BE DATSIK, NOR EXCISION. THEY ARE NOT COOL BECAUSE THEY SOUND LIKE DATSIK OR EXCISION, THEY ARE COOL BECAUSE THEY ARE DATSIK, AND EXCISION, AND SOUND LIKE THEMSELVES.

AS LONG AS U DONT DO U AND DONT HAVE YOUR OWN WAY OF EXPRESSING YOURSELVES YOU WILL NEVER MAKE IT. YOU WILL NEVER HAVE MADE IT EVEN A TINY BIT.

STUDYING OTHER PEOPLE'S CRAFT AND HAVING OBVIOUS AND STATED SOURCES OF INSPIRATION IS A NORMAL, AND MOST DEFINITELY NEEDED THING. IMHO they're not "that" good. Not enough to warrant the relentless bumming of them. I prefer my brostep to have a more complex drum pattern and more depth to the bass. And a little additional melody too. , Datsik tracks I've listened to are always kick, snare...kick...kick...snare.... always 1/3 and the basses aren't that aren't to reploicate... one oscillator in use, maybe two at most. I prefer more harmonics, more depth, if you get me. Datsik/Excsion basses are a little on the thin side

Take nothing away from them, they're still dope producers, but I mean.... like. Why does everyone want to make tunes like them so much?

I can reel off loads of brostep and beyond producers that are better producers who don't get the same recognition.

It's getting a bit grating now IMO.

You kinda answered your question there, other people find them "that good"?
I dont get why people are so concerned about what other people think about producer X. If you think producer Y is better then listen to that, don't put producer X down because you have different preferences.
