Re: FAO you Datsik/Excision wannabes
The response in this thread, that is, of people jumping on the "lol jaydot" bandwagon, with their apalca pictures, just cos it happens to be Datsik and Excision that I dared to criticise, knowing that they may see this thread, so by attacking the OP then brownie points may be earned quite frankly sucks and it is one of the downfalls of this forum, that whenever someone posts something that the majority don't agree with....then the alpacas come flooding in.
Now, I will read the thread in a sec again. But I thought I made it clear that I was in no way disrespecting the producers in question. It's not as if I've gone "Datsik and Excsision are shite producers" I clearly emphasised that I think they're good producers at what they do.. and for a second we had a civilised discussion and people pointed out that indeed, Datsik and Excision were good at what they do and I acknowledged this and came around to their way of thinking.I even said I was way too harsh in the OP. My points still stand that their drum pattern are a little simplistic. This is seen as a criticism in dubstep production. Having not read too much into debate about simple drum patterns and the theories behind it, all I can say is that perhaps a simple pattern lends to repitition which lends to rhythm? I think in that respect I was becoming an elitist just like a fair few on here.
Now the gist of the criticism here seems to be that I am a hypocrit because I make "horrendous brostep" (but a quick look at my page will show you I try to experiment, y''know) I think what does make me a hypocrit though is that I once aspired to make Datsik and Excision style basses myself. And this brings me back to the point that Datsik and Excision are good people to start learning from. That's the fundamental flaw in my "argument", in so much that I said that they drums and basses were a tad simplistic and yet came round to the theory that beginners are going to learn a lot more from mimicing those than jumping in at the deep end and trying to make complex drums and basses. I'm not the only one to criticise the use of kick, snare, 1/3...
Now, call me ignorant, but I have tried to stay out of the debate which rage on and on and on about people wanting to be like so and so producer. Partly because I know I don't know enough about production to preach to people about theirs, in a beginners respect. I'm not afraid to admit that. As It's a public forum I am entitled to my opinion, but I think I should read more into the debates surrounding it.
Now, in essence, I am apologising if I caused offence to Datsik/Excision or whatever. I just gave a few points of honest criticism. They'll probably be the first to admit they're not 100% perfect production wise but no one is, in anything in life I don't think. I have learned a lot from this thread, inadvertantly, ducking the rotten tomatoes etc. And next time someone makes a thread about Excision style basses. Or indeed any thread. I will try to not have a chip on my shoulder (I forget I am a noob sometimes, y'know, but DSF attitudes have rubbed off on me and I am a bit ashamed of myself.)
Now IIl be off again. Laters.

Seriously though, i think anyone who starts threads like these deserves a little harmless piss taking. Its the way it goes. Deal with it.

Re: FAO you Datsik/Excision wannabes
jaydot wrote:IMHO they're not "that" good. Not enough to warrant the relentless bumming of them. I prefer my brostep to have a more complex drum pattern and more depth to the bass. And a little additional melody too. , Datsik tracks I've listened to are always kick, snare...kick...kick...snare.... always 1/3 and the basses aren't that aren't to reploicate... one oscillator in use, maybe two at most. I prefer more harmonics, more depth, if you get me. Datsik/Excsion basses are a little on the thin side
Take nothing away from them, they're still dope producers, but I mean.... like. Why does everyone want to make tunes like them so much?
I can reel off loads of brostep and beyond producers that are better producers who don't get the same recognition.
It's getting a bit grating now IMO.
I usually just lurk in the shadows on this board.... but.. Jaydot.... where to begin... please replicate the swagga bass 100% and I will give credit where its deserved... but don't just chirp two big name producers who do it better than you. So what if its always kick, snare....kick...kick...snare.... I thought this genre was about not having any rules? doesn't that entitle him to do whatever he wants?...o sorry call brostep police he's found something that works therefor he needs to stop using it. why would you bother to argue over the amount of osc? who cares how many he's using... if it sounds good thats all that matters right?.... we get it, your jealous. now slag off!

Re: FAO you Datsik/Excision wannabes
Their "drum patterns" are perfectly fine
You should pay a little more attention to yours, the vast majority of them seem to be one boring hi hat clicking around at the same velocity. Its so frightently obvious that you were looking at FLs step sequencer (not that theres anything wrong with FL) and just drew in some notes randomly until you felt it was okay. And then there's the fact that most of your tunes seem to be the same half time drum pattern you criticize so heavily

Re: FAO you Datsik/Excision wannabes
listened to some old datsik tunes last night.... bomb!
anyways honestly i think if there drums were complex it wouldn't go so well with the song ( just my opinion though! )
I'm listening to boom right now, and i'd say the drums go pretty good?

oh poor jaydot...
opened a pandora's box i'm sure he didn't expect.
btw, listening to jenova project at the moment. fucking excellent... uses very few elements, but uses them exactly where and when they need to be there. i'd say it's not necessarily the amount or complexity but the way that it all fits together.
oh. and teh wobblez are phat.

Anyway, who wants to discuss Datsik's or Excision's drum patterns? Seems like pretty dull topic to me
