yeah its good up to the drop, same opinion as most people on here, im a pretty big fan of him to be honest i mean Random Album Title is a really good album in my opion like the other guy said it flows and every song is just really well produced.

anyway back to this dubstep phase hes going through, seems like hes trying to sort of be like most dubstep nowdays instead of putting in his own twist on it

meh his best stuff has always been the progressive house

I usually like deadmau5, but this song disappoints me. I just find it a bit boring and self indulgent, like he had his head up his arsehole when he was writing it.

one of my most fond memories of D.E.M.F (detroit electronic music festival) was the seeing deadmau5 wandering into the festival on the streets of detroit after he had made a public tirade about how djs are pointless (in detroit none the less) and having a chance to speak my mind to him.

Nothing like calling out an ex-happy hardcore candy raver for what he really is.... a douche. Guy is a joke, the people that listen to him are jokes.

I generally like what deadmau5 produces, but he is an idiot, nonetheless.

And what the hell is with this track? Sounds like it's been way too heavily compressed/limited. Not sure what happened there.

Also - 4 mins of chill then drop into dubstep? cmon.

yeah...4 minutes before a drop isnt exactly uncommon. maybe in dubstep, but considering the background he's coming from you can't blame him. plenty of genres with lengthy song lengths. i'm sure most of his existing fanbase won't care.

it's just the add nature syndrome has developed in the genre and among it's listeners.

shame really. i'm not a fan of this tune, but if people got a problem with 4 min intros then i really don't know what to tell you.

so now add "long" intros onto the list of things people don't like in dubstep

tavravlavish wrote:hahah it seems so silly and or kind of arrogant to have a 4:30 intro that builds up and down and then drops into complete shit. It reminds of that one DNB group future sounds of London or London electricity (i forget what they are called I think those are two different group pick whichever one makes dnb) but they have this one song that has this dramatic long ass intro with like studio orchestra and female vocals and blah blah blah the whole works for like 5 minutes (get real your making fucking dnb why the hell are you trying to make this shit sound like... well whatever then it finally drops into some seriously bland dnb tune, I honestly can't understand it, if your gonna have a 5 minute intro you better back that shit up GOOD, at least when it comes to dance music, or not, I mean if your gonna have an intro that long don't make it seem like it's about to drop into some epic shit any moment, have it for the sake of chilling out and letting the idea plant its roots and experiment with itself.. dont have it be like 5 minutes of thinking "okay this intro is pretty sweet, I get the picture and I bet this is gonna be super tight when it finally drops" that is stupid. If you wanna listen to dnb that shares that kinda vibe but is actually quality put on some Tyler Straub, no 5 minute bullshit there straight to business, and the orchestra he uses actually sounds chopped and sampled (nice and proper!)

...sorry if anyone took the time to read that, what a stupid block of bitching about other peoples music when I should just keep it to myself. hahahah :6:

Oh my god. I think the track you're referring to is called 'Papua New Guinea', and at the time(1991) this was a breakthrough track. Not exactly drum n bass, as it wasn't even invented then. More old skool/breakbeat hardcore whatever you call it. And the 'drop' you're referring to was pretty awesome for its day.

This deadmau5 song sounded to me like 2 seperate songs glued together. It just suddenly jumps to dubstep halfway through! Although was quite a meaty bassline sound, i like the track.

skimpi wrote:that tune is shit, i used to like deadmau5, like some stuff is alright, i liked strobe and stuff like that, but this tune just seems really long and boring and shit, then it drops into some fucking crazy shit thats even worse! it just doesnt fit as people have already said, and i hate the drums he uses on these dubstep tunes he is making, his hi-hats always have a really kinda live feel to them, then they are compressed to fuck, which makes them even worse!
Damn I gotta say I', feeling so seriously overblown frustration towards this guy. His personality aside, he's making music. I don't think anyone can really say what he's intending to do. Maybe hes a cocky bastard, but I feel like since hes a famous wellknown producer some of yall are just taking your opinions about little things he does and taking it new levels of bashing. I don;t feel like the fact you dont like his hats is reason enough to say his music is horrible. I feel like the microcosm of this little issue of for example compressed hats, is being used to reflect on the human being that is deadmau5 simply because hes famous and you dont like his music.

kaiori breathe wrote:Never liked deadmau5s work. All of it just sounds very nothingy to me. Its like it has the sheen of corporate professionalism, but no actual content. Just TOO formulaic. Not a fan. Not a fan at all...

"...Sure I'm not the only one getting a bit fed up of all this negativity towards established producers on here?
Keep it to the main forum at least. I know it's the popular thing now to bash [whoever] but it's disheartening to see it spread to other producers."

Why shouldn't we rip on him? As an 'established' producer he should have to live up to the expectations and desires of the listeners, otherwise he's just taking up space that could be filled by somebody more talented. It's the public's job to criticize music made by big names, if you don't you end up with shit. It's not like he's being bashed for no reason, there's nothing to be disheartened by, he's being bashed because he's just clearly not musically capable enough to be in the position he's in. Good production value, shit writing tech, everything he writes just sounds like the musical equivalent of a child's finger painting, except it's not endearing in any way.
And I think you are right in saying it is the responsibility of the music listening world to critique famous peoples music. And it is for this reason that he is put on a pedestal. The world has already decided what they like and doesn't give a shit how truly talented or skilled you personally think a musician is. The world as a whole appreciates music in a different way then you personally and the fact that you can bitch about how horrible he is and how its our responsibility to rip deadmau5 a new one bc of how much he sucks is flawed simply because the world already decided hes worth listening to. I think this critical responsibility you speak of should come in the form of what we listen to and promote not what we tear down. After all its not the government were talking about here...

well aside from his music, one thing you can definitely take from myself, as fact, and not opinion:

If you ever have to work a festival, or show, or whatever, and find yourself working for this guy (not directly employed by him, but essentially taking care of him for a weekend thru some agency)......

You will hate him. No question whatsoever. No two ways about it. No "ehh, everyone has their off days" ...

this guy is a total asshole 24/7/365.

Musically coming from where he's been for the past few years, he used all the techniques that he uses in his house, but just in dubstep forum. I don't really like this song, but I like most of his other work.

He did the remix on short notice for mtv.

At least he never sticks to one genre

his music sucks. he's only popular because he has a giant mouse head.

it's sad how people fall for stupid gimmicks over good music.
