next level (aka wack) soundcloud promotion strategies.

Post by qwaycee_ » Tue Nov 30, 2010 11:45 pm

perhaps this has nothing to do with production, but i've seen other threads about soundcloud so i assume it's all good. and perhaps this will shed some light on what not what to do to try and bring attention to yourself & your music.

anyway, i signed up for sc and this dude started following me instantly...i mean like within an hour tops. makes house and such.

http://soundcloud.com/firbman

actually there was another guy as well.

and whats more is i noticed that someone set up a sc account today, and this guy had followed them within a couple hours of them adding their songs. i also noticed he has one of them premium accounts. can someone with a premium account tell me if you've got some way of scanning all the people who just signed up for sc or some shit like that? i'm clicking around settings and dashboard and can't find anything.

what this guy seems to be doing is adding people with the anticipation that they'll add him back out of courtesy. after he's seen that the person has followed him, he stops following them lol. the other guy stopped following me as well after a day or so of me not doing anything.

now judging by the amout of people he follows, he doesnt seem to be doing that with everyone. but he's definitely doing it.

i just wanted to post all this b/c i think it's wack as hell. complete nonsense. and you all should never do it, in case you were thinking about it. follow people b/c you like their music (common sense right?). seems like sc is developing myspace characteristics.

The joys of people posting comments on your tracks asking you to 'check out ma tracks bro' and the really annoying messages, the mouth of cotton... :x

is there a way to disable all comments when listening so you can skip about instead of seeing all those retarded comments on "popular" tunes when you just wanna get past the repetitive bits? (shows how much i use sc)

Yeah, in the bottum right of the player.

I wish the waveform view could be hidden, it can ruin listening to tracks imo.

I have been a part of soundcloud since the beta and I love the site. I have not had any problems with spammers, mostly because I deal with the people who send me plants directly and don't bother going through the site. I never follow anyone because they follow me, I never leave a comment because someone left one for me. I only follow and comment if I feel the song/artists deserves it, this weeds out the spammers and, in general, the shittier music.

nice picture of mark ya got there!

I've noticed people will add me then drop me like you said, I don't know if its because they re-listen to my tunes and decide they suck or if they are trying to get me to add them. Either way fuck em!

Ive seen another sneaky way that people on facebook are doing things. They rename events/groups/pages and you get an email telling you such, but its just a rolling event of spam.

Yeah I always see people on here complaining about spammers and stuff, but I don't get any of that. I only follow people whose music I want updates on, and I let anybody follow me. If somebody leaves a comment, I am grateful for it. I leave comments on tunes if I happen to hear them somewhere and enjoy it enough to tell them about it. I never really have any of the problems I hear people on here complain about.

Ignore the spam, I don't see a lot of spam comments on your page (actually i don't see any), so if they only spam you are getting is from people sharing you a track along with 12024923974 other people then stop promoting your soundcloud on forums/blogs etc where the average joe think they will get somewhere by sending you a track or following you.

Imagine how many noobs just on this site come across one of your 13,000 posts and think you are the key to them getting a track signed based solely on the presence you have here.

If you are still receiving lots of spam and none of the above really applies to you then I think there is something wrong and soundcloud might be the culprit.

the thing is what these two guys did was within 60 min of me joining the site. it's like insta-spam. it's kind of fucked. how they can hone in on new soundcloud users is beyond me.

i had a record label follow me 1 day... then the next another...
I got sent 2 tunes by the first label within 3days, I then muted him.
next day both labels stopped following!!hahaahhah.... they can fuck off!

I just hate it when I get tunes that have been sent to over a thousand people... & I dont follow em!

I was thinking though... if people have premium accounts... how many groups do they send tracks to??

There are so many shit ways to spam on there. Well any site really. If there is a way to exploit it will be figured out within minutes and then you have to deal with it for months until facebook gets around to dealing with it. Myspace is a complete fail almost exclusively because of the auto spam programs that are out there. On face book the one that got on my tits for a while is tagging random people in videos and pics and stuff. It still happens occasionally but those things show up as yours in your profile some whack brostep track or something. I have no tolerance. When people post soundcloud or youtube or whatever to my wall I delete it intermediately and refuse to listen. That's my place to advertise not yours. I don't want people covering up what I want people to see getmi? I just only deal with people that want to act professionally. My email can be found, send me something there if you really want me to listen. Rant WTF

Anyway I love soundcloud but I pretty much ignore everything that goes on there. I only log on to upload tunes and then paste the links elsewhere.

Do people really think the spam helps their cause? Did Mala get huge by pleading with people to check him out? WWMD my new motto. Get on board.
