Re: Do you use presets?
agree with most, if it sounds good to me, i might tweak it a little bit add fx, and sometimes i'll just dive in and experiment on a new sound on the other hand i don't think its good to just use presets.
i think the main synth from Mt Kimbie - Vertical is a straight preset from FM7

Re: Do you use presets?
End of the day - these synths are quite expensive and I am paying 100+ quid for a synth.. and it comes with a banging preset i am going to use it.

Re: Do you use presets?
For somthing like a bass, no, I've never used a preset for that. But for things like bads, or like a backing synth- like most have said, why not use it? I definatly mess around with them to make them slightly different from the original, but theres nothin wrong with using them imo

Re: Do you use presets?
I'm kind of confused about what exactly a preset is..
is it the looped/sequenced tracks that already have a melody, harmony or rhythm? (for example, "Butterfly Stance" in Massive) or is it absolutely any preset sound, including the ones that contain nothing added to them and are basically just a single note that you use to craft your own melodies, harmonies and rhythms from? (example: "3 Octave Sub" in Massive)..
I personally don't like using presets that contain already constructed melodies or rhythms. I just never get the sound I'm going for that way, but if you can make it work and sound original, I don't see why not.

Re: Do you use presets?
A preset is a pre-made sound that typically comes with a synth, or you could download them serperatly. It doesn't matter if it's just a single hit sound or a arpeggiated melody or looped sound, if you didn't make it, it's technically a preset.FluidMoShun wrote:I'm kind of confused about what exactly a preset is..

Re: Do you use presets?
yeh wish i had a pound for every sylenth (camo/krooked/netsky*cough cough) and massive preset ive heard in top selling tunes over the past couple of years.
who cares if its a preset, its about creating a vibe over a few minutes isnt it? do most people in a club care? i love sound design but half of it is so fucked up i couldnt use it anyway. what does piss me off is blatant use of riffs from sample cds and 'construction packs' that people dont even bother to edit an just throw together , but whatever floats your boat i suppose, probably more annoying that i didnt think to use it first
