Studio monitors

I'm on the hunt for some new studio monitors, however I'm unaware of which to buy. So I'm simply looking for some recommendations.
They are going to be used for mixing, and should be affordable (less than £300).

listen to them in a shop. for 300 you arent gonna get the best ever, so you might as well like them as well as be useful. the ones to check out are all the standards... the yamahas above, ns10s if you can find em, krks. stay away from unknown brands, m audio, tannoys.

theres prob loads of threads with people recommending stuff.

oh also, check b stock and ebay. good deals on there if you have patience

ive been thru the same dilemma. my hs80 really suit me well. in my opinion, they are some of that ridiculously affordable entry type gear that does make a difference when compared to other stuff in the same bracket... theyre worth the extra dollar/pound/euro/yenn... really a step up from say... krks (yeah i said it)

just make sure u choose the right SIZE of monitors for the room u work in.. thats gonna matter as much as the brand..

Hey mate !

Got a pair of nice Adam the A3X version. Clear and crips in the high mids but really no bass support. Since I do the harder type of dubstep always good to have some really clear high and mids so ... I would totally recommend those. Little drawback is that it only supports up to 60k in the low end. Have to check the subbass either with a frequency analyser or on a proper system. They were 350 $ canadian so that makes them around 221pound each. And they are near field so they fit quite nicely on a desktop.

just make sure u choose the right SIZE of monitors for the room u work in.. thats gonna matter as much as the brand..

yes v good point... don't assume that 8inch monitors will always be better than 5inch ones in every context. there's going to be a lot more issues re standing waves etc with bass-heavy monitors that will be a nightmare in a lot of non-treated room setups. i used to use high end hifi speakers with very low bass response to produce, but 'downgrading' to 5inch yamaha monitors has cut out most of the standing wave nightmares i was getting in my room.

having said that, get the 80s if you feel your budget/room can accomodate them, they're great. just don't feel that budget is the only thing to consider

Take you favourite CD's and vinyls to a store where you can chose between em with a big mixer. According to your budget you'll probably find what you need. I'll buy KRK Rokits myself.

I vote 2nd hand KRK (vxt stuff)/ ADAM

If you want new then HS50's?, not a great deal of bass but pretty clear and doesn't take up too much room!
