Worries in the dance....

Post by Anjin » Mon Dec 06, 2010 11:32 pm

Long story short my friend got beat up by some pricks trying to rob him at exodus/dmz sat 4th dec in the middle of the the dance. They didnt get anythin but my friend got punched up and he his face was badly swollen.

We didn't report the incident to security at the time bcos my friend just wanted to leave n i doubt the police could have done much good, but In my opinion, security was weak. The five of us didnt get a pat down coming in and i didnt see them out on the floor once. I think if they were about more there'd have been less chance of this happening n I can see it becoming reguar thing if security don't deal ... dickheads just goin to a dance on the rob.

I've sent a message/email on here to exodus n mala, who I'm guessing are the organisers(?) and i'm guna speak to the west indian centre too just so they know, was just wondering if there's anything else i could do?

Never had at the west indian, but the security are always super helpful, if anything happens again report it to the door and they will do their best to help you!

With regards to searches at the door - it ain't about that really!

Sounds exactly what happened to someone I know on a BBC1 event in Brighton not so long ago. The Dubstep scene used to be so "friendly" lol

I hate reading about this kind of stuff. Saddens me deeply. A mate of mine had his chain ripped at the last DMZ birthday by a group of shifty rapscallions there on the rob.

But.. As much as I hate these things happening I don't think it's bouncers that stop these things from happening. If someone is out on the rob then chances are they'll try their luck no matter how many bouncers are around. Besides, having bouncers walk through the middle of the dance floor with a torch every 10 minutes is just irritating.

These things happen im afraid, its not the night or the security. Exodus has one of the best vibes going, out to simon and all the crew!

Fights are bound to break out. Thats because theres twats wherever you go. Even if its a sly dig or words being said it usually leads to trouble. Some pricks are just like that. Avoiding these fights cant always be done especially if your just randomly targeted. Even at bigger gigs like the one at Sheffield @ The Plug, there was a fair bit of security on site but there was about 6 fights and all took a good 30 seconds to break up. People within the gig really should stand up but no one does in fear of getting involved.

I saw it happen man, I walked past while one guy was swinging for your mate and his friend was getting aggy aswell. I was completely mashed and none of the hits connected so I just thought w.e. at the time but now I feel pretty bad for your boy.

Fights do break out but I have to agree with you tbh, the security at Exodus was fucking lax. There was a few security guards but they never went into either room or the smoking area so they never would have seen the fight or bothered doing anything about it, and i also didn't see anyone get searched. Matey was selling pills about 2 metres away from the security area which blew my mind as well. I got started on 2 or 3 times too and im glad nothing broke out cos security wouldn't have done shit and i was too fucked to be able to fight anyone.

i didnt see much but if i can help ill answer ur q's via pm.

Argh man sorry to hear this, feel for you and your friends. It's sad to say but scum behavior like this is on the rise. The first time i witnessed anything like this was at DMZ 5th Birthday in March, a couple of guys on the night got their chains pulled and before they could even react, the thieving low life was long gone. At the time i though it was an isolated incident until I went to Dub Police @ Fabric 15th Birthday where the same thing happened again, one guy was looking in hope on the floor, i had the unfortunate job of telling him its been jacked. Proper upsetting.

The best thing i can advise is just don't take anything valuable with you, whether it be a watch or a chain around your neck.

Never had aggro in the dance really, but had my hat nicked out of my hood. Guy had gone by the time I turned round. Pissed.

allow constant security walking through the crowd though, thats more of a worry for me :dubstep rave:

Think i should keep this balanced really, as a leeds local and someone who has been to countless exodus and subdub events plus many more at the windy i have never seen any proper trouble there, this sounds very odd for that place.
Im also gonna stick up for the secutrity, when stuff has looked like kicking off in the past they have always stopped it before it got anywhere, same with removing people who are overvally smashed and becomming a pain for everyone else, trust me the security for those nights are spot on, it would well ruin the vibe if everyones getting serched to the nines and if security where roaming the dance floor with torches, i always felt theres a mutual trust there, security let the punters get on with it and have a good night and punters dont take the piss by acting up.

Sorry to here bout your mate but i can almost gaurentee that if you had reported this guy to security they would of done summat about it

Dont let it put you off one of the best nights goin either, trust me its usually a really good vibe

Big shouts to scotty and the team as always!

that sucks majorly, but just so you know, even if they did search him, i dont reckon they would have not let him take his hands in

A good friend of mine had two front teeth broken the other week because this girl was pulling his cousin's hair so he went in to separate them then these scumbags appeared out of nowhere and started throwing fists about.

Honestly, I've done some fucking stupid shit when I've been drunk (that's why I rarely drink now) but I just can't get into the mindset of these people who go out to get into fights.
