Not in my mid 30’s but I feel you. Most of my friends have dried up musically and are stuck on old albums and artists, esp the hiphop heads. "If its not 90’s, its not good". I’m pretty much alone in this endless, vast ocean of new music… EDM never lets me down… I can chill on beatport or itunes for hours just listening to random artists, I really have too much music tbh…

I don't think age has much to do with it.... If you like new music you will seek it out. Mike Paradinas is older than you ;)

Case in point students below me...ealy 20's tops were blasting Phil Collins and M People out at 1am....I mean really? They're on my naughty list now....

I sometimes feel the opposite. I'm in my mid 20s and listen to and collect old music quite a bit. Like 1920s era music. I don't hate new music but there's something special in older music that's just not there any more, at least when I listen. I just don't get that same feeling inside 95% of the time. There is new music I really love, but I more often find myself reaching for old albums... I don't think I'm stuck in the past though, since most of it was made even before my parents were born.

people quit taking in new things after they peak socially. for most people it's sometime around highschool or college. then they turn into zombies that only find pleasure in nostalgia.

I'm 41 and the majority of the stuff I'm listening to now is more recently produced than the stuff I was listening to when I was 17. Then I would have been buying a lot of typical stoner stuff Hendrix, Dylan 60's Soul, early Pink Floyd, Barret, Ledzep, Zappa etc the majority of which was produced 10 years before I was buying it. Even when I started going to clubs dance music was essentially for the weekend nights and "real" music was for the rest of the week. It was only when I developed a real interest in Hip Hop around the late 80's that my music collection got more current though that's a lot to do with a ton of popular stuff in the 80's being beyond terrible.

Making music is so much more accessible now that my interests in music have developed with age because there is so much more good stuff available. There's also a lot of people of my age that would have been 18-22 in the late 80's when the whole exctasy thing went nuts that have retained their interest in dance music and related stuff.
