Re Massive: any real limitations as a synth?

A lot of people say it sounds plasticky...I'm guessing it's due to the on-board effects, which I don't think are that great and tend not to use (the filters aren't as good as a lot of other synths as well in my opinion, but they're useable).


Sharmaji's comment was obviously tongue-in-cheek, I have made some fantastic analog-style sounds with Massive, probably because I'm building those sounds from the ground up and prefer simpler stuff than crazy modulated brutal electro kinda sounds.


I personally don't see any limitations to it in the sense that it can be very complex if you want it to be but simple as you need it to be.



Anyway, all of these artists stand out because their sound is unique; I think Massive can make any of the synthesized sounds you hear on their records, it's just a matter of knowing when and where to use sounds like that and to use them in a way that's meaningful to the tune and makes it stand out.

^^^ cool. thats what i wanted to know. I, similarly, use it for building simple sounds from ground up and I find the interface is amazing for that.

but yeah good to hear what its limitations might be... i pretty much only use the LP4 and HP4 filters and the small reverb effect... seems like those should sound fine tho...

Vertical is an FM8 or 7 preset i think but Maybes is an acoustic guitar from an old and very different song from before Mount Kimbie

I have FM8, and its on there exactly like it sounds in Maybes, reverb, distortion, and all… I’ll find it later and let you know the patch title
